Cultural Harmony: UEH students celebrate differences

Cultural Harmony: UEH students celebrate differences

For nearly 300 students, the Department of Student Affairs (DSA) held a workshop on "Embracing Language and Cultural Differences" on September 18, 2023. A crucial and timeless topic in student life was covered in this event.

Being a national university, UEH enrolls students from many different ethnic groups, nations, and regions.  As a result, there are clashes between dialects, lifestyles, and points of view in the learning environment at UEH.  While integrating into this shared community, students face many difficulties due to cultural differences, which can lead to cultural shock and misunderstandings about regional cultural diversity.

In order to help students, particularly first-year students, better understand national cultural identity and aid them in integrating into UEH's new community, the Department of Student Affairs (DSA) organized a discussion on the subject of "Embracing Language and Cultural Differences" with cultural expert MA. Nguyen Hoang Chieu Anh.

UEH students learn how to accept and value cultural diversity in the community.

Step outside of your comfort zone

That is the message Ms. Chieu Anh emphasized during the sharing session. Through her experience, she has gained an understanding of the thoughts and feelings that new students in the UEH "Global Village" have. A few brief conversations between the students themselves, best illustrated the differences in dialects and regional characteristics.

Hấn, mệ, dằm, dặn... and other local slang will excite you but will undoubtedly cause many practical difficulties;.

At the conclusion of the event, Ms. Chieu Anh made sure to share some thoughts, advice, and solutions with the students in the hopes that they can live in harmony with another in the face of such differences.

Diversity & Inclusion Workshop is an annual event that is included in UEH activities and covers a variety of useful subjects to help students overcome cultural barriers and integrate into the outside world.
