UEH and Hanoi University of Industry: Exchange of University Governance Experiences and Signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

The seminar "University Governance and Sustainable Universities" – a platform for experience-sharing between the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) and Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI) on implementing innovative governance models - successfully took place on February 20, 2025, in Hanoi. The event aimed to enhance university governance quality, promote sustainable development, and strengthen institutional collaboration.

The seminar "University Governance and Sustainable Universities" was organized to foster collaboration between the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) and Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI), providing a platform to share ideas and practical solutions. This event also served as an opportunity for HaUI to discuss and develop key criteria, pillars, and models aimed at advancing sustainable university development.

The seminar was attended by Assoc. Prof. Bùi Quang Hùng, Vice President of UEH; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lê Hồng Quân, Party Secretary and Chairman of the University Council of HaUI; Dr. Nguyễn Văn Thiện, Vice Chairman of the University Council and Vice Rector of HaUI; Dr. Kiều Xuân Thực, Rector of HaUI; Dr. Nguyễn Văn Thiện, Vice Rector of HaUI; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phạm Văn Đông, Vice Rector of HaUI; along with distinguished Faculty leaders, Department heads, and representatives from various Institutes of HaUI

At the seminar, Assoc. Prof. Bùi Quang Hùng, Vice President of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, shared UEH insights with Hanoi University of Industry on perspectives, objectives, and experiences in transforming governance models from a university to a multi-disciplinary institution and advancing sustainable university development.

He emphasized that sustainable university development is a global trend that enhances research capabilities, promotes multi-disciplinary education, and fosters community engagement through international collaborative projects in education and research to address global challenges. At UEH, the sustainability strategy is built upon five key pillars:

1.    Educating global citizens for sustainable action
2.    Conducting research for community benefit
3.    Prioritizing sustainability in governance
4.    Operating from a green campus toward carbon neutrality
5.    Building a community of changemakers and artistic inspiration

In addition, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bùi Quang Hùng addressed critical issues listed as restructuring under a three-tier multi-disciplinary university model, fostering university culture, implementing OKR-based management and evaluation, defining university positioning, enhancing student engagement, developing marketing and communication strategies, and driving digital transformation. These topics sparked active discussions among the Faculty members in attendance.

Various perspectives were discussed during the seminar, including decentralization in governance between the university level and the affiliated schools, objectives and mechanisms for advancing science and technology, innovation, international collaboration, and strategies for attracting foreign experts and high-quality human resources

On behalf of Hanoi University of Industry, Dr. Kiều Xuân Thực, the University’s Rector, expressed his gratitude to Assoc. Prof. Bùi Quang Hùng for sharing valuable governance experiences with the institution

On this occasion, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi University of Industry officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen collaboration in education and training, student exchange, and quality assurance; scientific research and international cooperation; as well as innovation and entrepreneurship. This agreement marks a significant milestone in the strong partnership between the two institutions.
