EU4Sustainability Project: Summary of One Year of Implementing

On August 26, 2024, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics (UEH) organized a 1-year review of the EU4Sustainability project at Campus B - 279 Nguyen Tri Phuong with the presence of representatives of units participating in the Jean Momnet Program in Vietnam.

The EU4Sustainability project is the first Jean Monnet Actions project funded by the European Union through UEH's Erasmus program. It is known that by 2023, Vietnam has about 10 higher education institutions nationwide receiving funding from the Jean Monnet Actions project with the goal of raising public awareness of sustainable development. In recent times, UEH has been actively participating, committing and accompanying the Project, affirming the school's sustainable development efforts as well as strengthening the vision of becoming a multidisciplinary university with a prestigious academic and sustainable reputation in the Asian region by 2030.

Overall of Summary event

The summary event was attended by representatives from Ho Chi Minh City Open University, Binh Duong University, Bac Lieu University, as well as representatives from Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade, Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade, Loc Phat Joint Stock Commercial Bank, and SSI Securities Corporation.

With the project's goal of enhancing understanding of sustainable development in Vietnam, over the past year, project members have developed and taught seven courses for students and graduate learners on various topics:

1. Sustainable Development as a Global Trend

2. Sustainable Development Goals in European Agenda

3. EU Sustainable Finance and Investment

4. The European Sustainable Society as Research Item

5. Sustainable Development in EU External Relations

6. Sustainable Development and General Principles of EU Law

7. The EU Green Deal: Prospects and Challenges

Participating in the teaching were lecturers from UEH such as Assoc.Prof.Dr. Trinh Thuy Anh - Vice Principal of UEH School of Technology and Design; Dr. Hoang Hai Yen - Head of School of Banking; and lecturers such as Dr. Le Nguyen Quynh Huong; Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh; and Prof. Andrey A. Kinyakin (Centro Universitário Integrado). Through the content of the lectures, students and trainees had an overview of sustainable development trends, understood the meaning and importance of sustainable development, and from there formed ideas to contribute to the sustainable development of Vietnam in particular and the world in general.

Detailed information about the courses, including course materials and articles on sustainable development by project members, is published on the project website www.eu4sustainability.com. This will serve as an essential reference resource for faculty, learners, students, and readers interested in sustainable development activities. In the coming year, the project will continue to implement courses for a broader range of learners and will carry out international publication activities on the topic of sustainable development.
