On the morning of November 15, 2024, the 48th Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program (SSEAYP) 2024 with the theme “Economic Growth and Sustainable Community” was successfully organized. The program was hosted by the UEH Youth Union to enhance friendship and understanding between Japanese and youth from ASEAN countries.

Following the success of previous years, the Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program (SSEAYP) 2024 has officially been launched. At the invitation of the Japanese Cabinet Office, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the National Committee for Vietnamese Youth sent a delegation to participate in the 48th Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program (SSEAYP) 2024 with exchange activities on the Nippon Maru ship, Japan, with some ASEAN member countries from November 4 to December 11, 2024.
The University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union is honored to welcome 28 youth delegates from the 48th Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program (SSEAYP) in 2024, with the topic “Economic Growth and Sustainable Community”. They are not only representatives of their countries but also ambassadors and future leaders who contribute to promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region and the world. In addition, UEH students had the opportunity to expand their knowledge as well as to be equipped with solid provisions to become global citizens. Through this, the program has contributed to creating a culturally connected environment where young people from different cultures explore, learn and share good values.

Following the trend of sustainable development, building a "green university" is not simply an option ; actually, this has become an urgent task for higher education institutions in Vietnam. With a pioneering and creative spirit, UEH has actively implemented sustainable solutions creating significant marks in the journey to build a friendly and dynamic appearance.
Attending the program, UEH Youth Union was pleased to welcome Comrade Dang Van Thang - Member of the Standing Committee of the City Youth Union, Vice President of the Vietnam Youth Union of HCMC, Head of the Youth Department of the City Police; Comrade Le Duc Dat - Member of the Executive Committee, Vice President of the School of City Youth Union, Vice President of the City Student Union; Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Duong Phuong Thao - Deputy Head of the Research - Department of Development and Global Engagement; Dr. Le Thanh Loan - Head of the Department of Agriculture - Natural Resources & Environment; Ms. Sandhya Rao - Lecturer of the Institute of Smart Cities and Management, member of the UEH Sustainability Project Board; Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuong Nho - Secretary of the UEH Youth Union; Mr. Mai Nguyen Dung - Deputy Secretary of the UEH Youth Union.
On behalf of the Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth (SSEAYP) 2024, the program was honored to welcome Mr. Somphone Soulalangsy - Leader of the Lao People's Democratic Republic; Ms. Rika MITSUHASHI - Coordinator of the Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth; Mr. Toshikazu AKASHI, Mr. Kazuya OKAWA, Mr. Yunosuke HAMAOKA and Ms. Megumi SAKAI - Members of the Board of Directors of the Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth.
Speaking at the program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Duong Phuong Thao - Deputy Head of UEH Department of Research - Development and Global Engagement oriented and inspired the students: "As a pioneering higher education institution in Vietnam, UEH has been always dedicated to training generations of comprehensive students, not only possessing a solid knowledge foundation but also equipped with necessary soft skills. With the mission of nurturing young people with a global vision, we are extremely proud and honored that young people in Ho Chi Minh City are participating in SSEAYP. This is not only an opportunity to exchange ideas and to learn but also an opportunity to introduce Vietnamese culture and people, spreading beautiful cultural values to friends around the world."

Following the program was the discussion session with Ms. Sandhya Rao - Lecturer of the Institute of Smart Cities and Management, member of the UEH Sustainability Project Board on the topic "Developing a Green University Model from the Practice at UEH". Thereby, UEH students were inspired to come up with creative ideas, contributing to building a greener and more sustainable university environment.

Dr. Le Thanh Loan - Head of the Department of Agriculture - Natural Resources & Environment brought in-depth analysis of the current situation of climate change in the Mekong Delta. Thanks to these valuable insights, young people understood the problem better and developed their passion for research and finding creative and sustainable solutions for this fertile land.

Within the framework of the program, 28 youth delegates from the Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program (SSEAYP) along with 40 representatives of UEH students discussed and exchanged culturally while seeking solutions to balance economic growth and environmental sustainability. Through group discussions and poster presentations, the young people brought diverse and creative perspectives on sustainable development at universities.

The SSEAYP 2024 trip at UEH has ended with deep impressions in the hearts of the participating delegates. This event, as an important step marking the success of UEH in internationalizing the training environment, is an opportunity for UEH students to exchange and to learn with international friends, Hopefully, the program has contributed to creating a generation of confident, dynamic students, ready to integrate and contribute to the development of the country.
