From Persistent Effort to a New Look: UEH Aims to Become a Smart Green University Welcoming the Year of the Horse 2026

14 Feb, 2026

For nearly 50 years since its founding, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) has continuously strengthened its university governance capacity and undertaken comprehensive upgrades of its facilities toward a green, smart university that meets international standards. The projects at UEH are designed and built according to sustainable‑development standards, optimizing energy use, managing resources, and reducing emissions, thereby creating a creative, friendly learning environment and spreading green values to the community. In the days leading up to the celebration of the Year of the Horse 2026, UEH unveils a fresh appearance, ready for the next important development milestones.

Infrastructure Restructuring – Creating Green, Smart, Multi‑Regional Learning Spaces

Entering a new development phase, UEH is focusing on deep‑level infrastructure restructuring: upgrading existing facilities while developing strategic teaching‑research spaces that meet the demands of digital transformation, internationalization, and sustainable development.

In Ho Chi Minh City, Campus A is being renovated toward a modern, smart orientation, expanding open‑learning areas and integrating digital teaching‑learning technologies to enhance the experience for students and lecturers.

At UEH Mekong, the university is investing uniformly in facilities that meet international standards; 100 % of classrooms for theory and practice will operate under a Hybrid Class model, complemented by a modern studio that simulates a film‑set environment. The branch is also developing learning‑experience amenities such as a smart library that shares data with UEH HCMC and a Start‑Up Coffee run by students.

Simultaneously, on 19 August 2025, the university officially broke ground on UEH Nexus Campus Nha Trang—a new teaching‑research branch positioned as “a hub where scholars and global knowledge converge.” The project is one of 250 key national‑level constructions launched and inaugurated to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (2 September 1945 – 2 September 2025), marking a new knowledge landmark that will accompany the development of Khanh Hoa province.

Continuing to expand UEH’s access to resources and facilities for the community

In recent years, UEH’s campuses (A, B, N, and UEH Mekong) have become open spaces that regularly welcome businesses, partners, alumni and high‑school students through highly connected, experiential Campus Tours and Alumni Tours. The university is further extending its community‑service role by providing startup teams and innovation‑project groups with work‑space and networking opportunities at Campus V and UEH Mekong, thereby contributing to the development of a practice‑oriented creative ecosystem.

Originating from the digital heritage space established at Campus A, the E‑History website [https://ehistory.ueh.edu.vn/] has been inherited and expanded to preserve UEH’s traditional values, historical milestones, and notable achievements across different eras. It serves not only as a “memory house” for generations of UEHer, but also as a platform where the UEH community and the public can reflect on the university’s steadfast, innovative, and service‑oriented journey as a pioneering Vietnamese institution in renewal, integration and sustainable development. The website enables anyone, wherever they are, to follow, explore and contribute information, helping UEH continuously enrich the living legacy of a dynamic, creative and sustainable university at the heart of the city.

Creating a Green University Environment: From Sustainable Infrastructure to a Circular Campus

As a university whose campuses are spread throughout Ho Chi Minh City, UEH recognises that sustainable development is not only a strategic direction but must be realised through the management and operation of its campus grounds. Specifically, numerous solar‑power stations with a combined capacity of more than 509,000 kWp have been installed at Campuses A, B and N to harness renewable energy efficiently. In 2025, that system generated approximately 470,244.20 kWh, cutting CO₂ emissions by about 1,270 tons—the equivalent of planting 12,010 trees. In addition, nearly 570 energy‑saving devices were deployed, representing roughly 89.87 % of all equipment at UEH that year. These results demonstrate UEH’s green‑transition efforts and underscore its pioneering role in sustainable education.

UEH has expanded and enhanced its green spaces, bringing nature closer to everyday campus life. By 2025, the total area of turf and trees across the campuses reached 52,345 m² and 25,244 m², respectively, accounting for 30 % of the overall site and 15.6 % of built‑up area. A notable example is the English Zone at Campus B, where English‑language learning is integrated into an open‑air setting that maximises natural light and creates a relaxing atmosphere. In addition, the newly launched UEH Green Campus nursery – SOD Culture – serves as a bridge between ecological practice and academic learning, enabling students and faculty to plant, experiment with, and monitor environmental management on‑site.

UEH joyously greets the Year of the Horse 2026

Amid the festive atmosphere welcoming the new spring, all UEH campuses have taken on fresh, vibrant appearances, joyfully ushering in the year 2026. With renewed momentum and ambition, the community of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City is determined to work together, united in purpose, to fulfill the goals set forth, looking ahead to UEH’s 50th anniversary and aiming to become a “Top 250 Asian university by 2030”.
