International Workshop on Data Analytics: Current Trends and Prospects

With the aim of creating opportunities for lecturers to together share and discuss their research and development opportunities in the field of Data Analytics, on the morning of 28th March 2022, UEH College of Technology and Design (CTD) organized an online international workshop on with the theme “Current trends and prospects” with the participation of a guest speaker, Professor Kiyoshi Kobayashi from Kyoto University, one of the leading specialists in the field of Data Analytics in Japan.

Following the success of the specialized discussion in February 2022, UEH College of Technology and Design held an international workshop in March 2022 with “International Workshop Data Analytics: Current trends and prospects” Theme. The workshop received the concerns, participation and contributive opinions of lecturers and officials of other member colleges of UEH and Vinh Long Campus.

Stating at the workshop, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Khac Quoc Bao - Deputy Head of UEH College of Technology and Design - shared: “The increasing demands for exploiting big data around the world have led to divided strengths that place on not only the amount but also on how it is exploited and used. In reality, Vietnamese and the world’s firms are being encouraged to invest largely in data and are gradually succeeding in developing big data. Additionally, CTD is in the process of building curricula related to the field of Data Analytics, therefore, we need the contributions and shares of specialists and lecturers specializing in this field.”

The workshop included two sessions: the first part was general shares in the field of Data Analytics as well as its trends and prospects from guests speakers. In the second session, after listening to the presentations of the speakers, lecturers and officials would contribute to extensive discussions associated with this field and their perspectives.

In the first session, Dr. Le Thanh Nam - Institute of Smart City and Management interacted and shared his experience and inspection after many years involved in the field of “urban calculation and data analytics” and discussed the backgrounds of firms according to the digitalization trend. Besides, Ph.D. Le Thanh Nam commented on the limits of employing human resources in the field of data analytics placing on the lack of general knowledge of business and English communicative skills. This discussion internal to this workshop, according to Ph.D. Le Thanh Nam, was required to be considered to expand education and training on data analytics. This was not only focused on the external face but also the tendencies that society was moving around, and from the demands and supplies of the society in both business and other fields of our lives.

The guest speaker - Professor Kiyoshi Kobayashi from Kyoto University, Japan shared his experience of reality when he worked in the urban field - smart city and business data analytics. He raised his opinions on integrating and moderating the system. He supposed that the integration of the system would be proficient instead of the discrete use of many systems. Presenting it in detail in the 2nd session, the professor emphasized the significance of combining science, business, and actual demands to assist students to develop their data analytics skills in immersing in their specializations.

Within the program, Master Tran Ha Quyen - Lecturer at School of Mathematics and Statistics - presented the strengths of the data analytics field at University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City. His School changed and updated new curricula whose applications are close to reality and the demands of society. Its consequences were that more graduated alumni have been appointed to positions related to data analytics and succeeded in global companies operating in Vietnam.

After listening to the presentations of guests speakers, lecturers mentioned job opportunities, prospects, and challenges of the data analytics major at UEH and in the world in the discussion session. In reality, in the world, data analytics has been applied variously and developing in business, urban, infrastructure, and so on. For research and education, data science and database in multidisciplinary development have also been a significant topic, in which data cooperation and integration are extremely necessary. Ph.D. Trinh Tus Anh agreed with the ideas of other speakers. This was an opportunity for her to learn from the others’ ideas and the knowledge of internal CTD, the support of Prof. Kobayashi, and different partners. Data analytics has been developed more greatly in the training and research activities of CTD in the future.

The international workshop on “International Workshop Data Analytics: Current trends and prospects” is a program affiliated with a specialized workshop series of UEH College of Technology and Design in 2022. Through this, the workshop brought valuable information in the field of data analytics and received many shares and contributive ideas from guest speakers, employees, and lecturers. In the upcoming time, UEH College of Technology and Design will organize more specialized workshops to discuss in detail topics surrounding the field of data analytics.

With the restructuring strategy forming a Sustainable and Multidisciplinary University, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City is unstoppably making efforts to concentrate on and promote training and research activities in accordance with dual and multidisciplinary orientation which brings practical values contributing to the process of economic and social development of the country. In addition to that, it will make the academic reputation of UEH evolve remarkably in the international market and be involved in Asia’s Top 100 in 2030.
