Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee Worked with UEH on the Project of Establishing a National Research Center for Ocean Technology

On the afternoon of July 19, 2024, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) was honored to welcome the delegation of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee visiting and coordinating, consulting the submission to the Prime Minister for approval of the Project on establishing a National Research Center for Ocean Technology in Khanh Hoa.

As a product ordered directly by the Khanh Hoa Department of Technology and Science from the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), the Project regarding establishing the National Research Center for Ocean Technology (referred to as the Project) is part of the strategy for sustainable development of Vietnam's marine economy to 2030, with a vision to 2045 of the 12th Party Central Committee. The visit of the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee to UEH was to discuss and to clarify some coordination contents between the two sides related to the Project.

Overview of the meeting

Visiting UEH, the delegation of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee had the presence of Mr. Le Huu Hoang - Permanent Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hai - Deputy Chief of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee Office; Ms. Le Vinh Lien Trang - Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Science and Technology; Mr. Nguyen The Loc - Head of Department of Science Management, Khanh Hoa Department of Science and Technology; Mr. Cao Minh Ngu - Specialist of Science, Education and Culture Department, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee; and Ms. Pham Thi Kim Dan - Specialist of Science Management Department, Khanh Hoa Department of Science and Technology.

Welcoming the delegation of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, on behalf of UEH, there were Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh - University Director; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Quang Hung - University Deputy Director; Dr. Dinh Cong Khai - University Deputy Director; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Bich Nguyet - Chairwoman of the Strategy and Policy Advisory Council; Mr. Le Dong Du - Office Deputy Chief; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Phong Nguyen - Permanent Deputy Head of the Research - Development and Global Engagement Department and Dr. Trinh Tu Anh - Director of the Institute of Smart Cities and Management.

Giving a warm welcome to the delegation of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh - Director of UEH - remarked: “We would like to express our gratitude to the Khanh Hoa Provincial Authority for accompanying UEH in local education activities, notably supporting the development of the Training and Research Facility in Nha Trang and organizing training courses for provincial officials. Besides training, research programs with coordination between the two sides, especially the Project on establishing a National Research Center on Ocean Technology is a way for UEH to partially contribute to the growth of the province. We hope to develop Khanh Hoa into a place that not only connects with the central coastal areas but also with ASEAN in international exchange activities and scientific research.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Le Huu Hoang - Standing Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee - sent UEH warm thanks: "Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee would like to respectfully acknowledge the efforts of UEH for the Project, contributing to the initial successes in implementing the task of developing the National Research Center for Ocean Technology. Khanh Hoa Province strives to become a centrally-run city by 2030 and completing the Project as one of the key tasks for the Province at the present. With the achieved cooperation successes, Khanh Hoa is ready to support UEH in local activities and hopes that the friendship between the two sides will be even closer".

At the meeting, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee summarized the work of developing and submitting the plan of the Project on establishing the National Center for Ocean Technology Research, and announced the decision to establish a Working Group to consult the establishment and submission of the plan to the authority for appraisal and approval of the Project, in which, the list includes 02 senior leaders at UEH: Assoc.Prof.Dr. Bui Quang Hung - Deputy Director of UEH and Assoc.Prof.Dr. Phan Thi Bich Nguyet - Chairwoman of the UEH Strategy and Policy Advisory Council. The two sides also discussed specific coordination contents related to advising and submitting the Project to the Prime Minister for approval.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Bui Quang Hung - Deputy Director of UEH and Assoc.Prof.Dr. Phan Thi Bich Nguyet - Chairwoman of the UEH Strategy and Policy Advisory Council were invited to join the Working Group to consult the preparation and submission of planning to the authority for appraisal and approval of the Project.

With the largest marine economic advantages in the country, an important position in security and defense and being one of the leading provinces in developing marine tourism in the country, Khanh Hoa was chosen by the Government to become the place to establish the National Center for Ocean Technology according to Resolution No. 42/NQ-CP, dated March 21, 2022 of the Government and the direction of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Notice No. 97/TB-VPCP, dated April 5, 2022.

Fulfilling the responsibility of a Multidisciplinary and Sustainable University, UEH is always ready to accompany research activities, contributing to the common development of localities. Hopefully, the Project on Establishing the National Research Center for Ocean Technology and the cooperation activities between UEH and Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee will achieve many new successes in the future.
