Launching the UEH Theater and short-term art-inspired training courses, marking the cooperation between UEH and Hong Van Drama Theater

On the morning of November 17, 2022, at Hall A103, the event "Launching UEH Theater" and short-term art-inspired training courses officially took place, marking the cooperation between University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) and Hong Van Drama Theater.

 

The event was honored to receive the attendance of Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diem - Deputy Head of the Culture and Arts Department, Propaganda Department of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Mr. Nguyen Duc Nguyen - Member of the Standing Committee, Head of the School's Youth Committee, Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City Student Association; Ms. Dang Thuy Khanh Van - Head of Propaganda Department, Party Committee of University and Colleges of Ho Chi Minh City.

On the UEH side, there was the participation of Dr. Bui Quang Hung - Vice President; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Khac Quoc Bao - Vice Rector; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Phan Thi Bich Nguyet - Chairwoman of the Strategic and Policy Advisory Council. On the side of Hong Van Drama Theater, there were People's Artist Hong Van - Director of Drama Theater, and famous artists, directors, and choreographers.

With the presence of teachers representing universities, colleges, and high schools in Ho Chi Minh City; press agencies; business partners; Leaders of the member colleges, units under UEH, Hong Van theater, and students who are studying at 2 units.

Overview of the event

With a vision to become a prestigious Multidisciplinary and Sustainable University in Asia by 2030, UEH has been constantly promoting interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary training activities, in order to apply multidisciplinary understanding to solve problems arising in contemporary life and society, at the same time, realizing the important role of universities and colleges in maintaining cultural, artistic and historical heritages associated with SDG11 in 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations, UEH is a pioneering higher education institution that considers creating a community that inspires art and change for sustainable development as one of its strategic pillars, besides training, research, operation, and university governance towards Multidisciplinary and Sustainability.

Together with the responsibility of maintaining, spreading, and honoring activities that inspire art, humanistic and cultural values, and meaning, Hong Van Drama Theater is highly appreciated by the public and the art community with its outstanding performances, quality dramatic works, and efforts to theatricalize historical legends, works of literature, art and legends of Vietnam and the world; with a team of artists, directors, and actors who are constantly exploring and creating art. Over 20 years of establishment and development, Hong Van Drama Theater has received many professional awards for the stage as well as many individual awards for artists… At the same time, it is proud to be a technical training center for outstanding acting skills in Ho Chi Minh City, training and fostering talents in the fields of theatre, film, and television, with the philosophy of comprehensive education "Moral, intellectual, physical, and aesthetic".

With the strengths of each side, and the common goals of maintaining and spreading cultural, artistic, and technological values ​​for the young community, a future generation of civilization, intellectuals, and knowing how to appreciate the arts, UEH and Hong Van Drama Theater launched the UEH Theater model and implemented short-term art training courses. The project is the addition of tradition and modernity, between young audiences and artists to build and introduce a new art form with many activities in succession to form a community towards sustainable development and artistic inspiration.

Sharing about the project, Dr. Bui Quang Hung - Vice President of UEH said: “University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) wishes to accompany Hong Van Drama Theater to promote the strengths of the two sides in order to improve the efficiency in implementing activities, taking advantage of the potentials of facilities and professional human resources to promote cooperation in the field of art and creativity. Through the UEH Theater and short-term art-inspired training courses, UEH and Hong Van Drama Theater wish to spread cultural and artistic values ​​to the community and prepare ideas for the future generation of young people, who are not only good at their profession but also have multidisciplinary insights and the ability to apply knowledge to solve problems in their personal lives and help society. In this case, the application of knowledge of art, art combines technology and strengthens the creative spirit to balance and improve the quality of life and work. This combination not only promotes UEH's Multidisciplinary development orientation closer but also promotes humanity and cultural values ​​in students and contributes sustainable creative ideas to the community. "

With the message "Stage a Play, Stay a Culture", UEH Theater will be the stage of literary works, stories, and legendary famous folk and contemporary history domestically and abroad, especially for pupils, students, teachers, lecturers, and officials of high schools, colleges and universities in Ho Chi Minh City. In addition, UEH Theater accompanies and supports the teaching method of "role-play" in the high school literature training program for high school students in the city and neighboring provinces. Every night of the Drama Theater performance, the audience will enjoy plays performed by elite artists, actors, and students of professional drama classes. At the end of each play/excerpt, students will dialogue and exchange with the directors and actors to better understand the works from various perspectives. The most special is the role-playing activity for students to participate in the experience, explore the artistic potential, and boldly with the limelight.

People's Artist Hong Van emphasized: "With many years of incubation and construction, the school theater stage is oriented to focus on plays with literary and historical themes such as công chúa Ngọc Hân, Thái Hậu Dương Vân Nga, Số Đỏ, Bỉ Vỏ,… and all that belongs to Vietnamese literature from North to South and world literature. To spread further, the project will combine with all high schools and universities in the city to bring students together with the model of School Drama Theater to create a community of young people who are civilized, knowledgeable, know how to enjoy and appreciate artistic values".

The training activities spread and inspire the arts

Besides the UEH Theater, UEH and Hong Van Drama Theater will coordinate to conduct short-term training courses on drama theater; art forms applying technology; basic acting course; use of voice and expressions, supporting body language for public presentation and communication; Helping young people discover and explore their own talents. This is UEH's Multidisciplinary and Sustainable development, expanding the fields of the art training and art-technology activities, using technology to spread and enhance artistic values besides the group economic, business, law, and management sectors. In addition, the training classes also meet the demand for young actors and successors to supply the theater system, especially the group of students in the city.

In the future, the project will cooperate with UEH's Artech Fusion Hub on art-technology interference activities, using technology to spread and enhance artistic values. At the same time, connecting universities, businesses, authorities, and communities nationally and internationally, focusing on research, development, and application of technological tools applied to the arts, especially Artech theater, thereby solving problems, and aiming to improve the quality of life. The cooperation will be the beginning of longer steps in the future in terms of continuous development and creativity, creating cultural, artistic, and creative spaces that attract the participation of the community, especially high school students, and young people in the city and neighboring provinces.
