LAUNCHING UEH GREEN CAMPUS CALORIES STAIR "Power-Up Steps” –  Every Step Is a Source of Energy for the Environment and Health

16 Nov, 2024

The rapid development of today's society means that our lives are unintentionally taking place at a faster pace; as a result, we tend to prioritize convenient options such as partially used plastic products, not sorting waste for disposal, or especially rarely using stairs. Therefore, with the goal of building a green UEH Community and a green UEH Ecosystem, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) has officially launched UEH Green Campus Calories Stair "Power-Up Steps" to encourage students to use the stairs on campus to improve and to enhance their health while reducing carbon emissions and protecting the environment.

1. Why should we use stairs every day?

One way to exercise and bring health benefits today, yet this is rarely mentioned, is to use stairs. In fact, using stairs can help us lose weight effectively, improve health, strengthen resistance, and improve mood as well as the life quality.
Studies indicate that spending 30 minutes of physical activity every day will bring benefits and positive changes to health. However, with today's busy life, we rarely participate in regular physical activities. Therefore, using stairs, instead of elevators, is one way to incorporate exercise into life. This is also a way for us to exercise economically and easily.

2. Healthy and green living in every step with UEH Green Campus Calories Stair

With the mission of raising awareness of environmental protection and improving community health, UEH Green Campus Calories Stair has created a friendly space, encouraging students in general and the UEH community in particular to use the stairs, instead of the elevator. This is not only an opportunity for each of us to improve our health but also contributes a small part to reducing energy consumption and promoting a green and healthy lifestyle.

Currently, UEH Green Campus Calories Stairs have appeared on Campuses B and N, decorated with meaningful messages, encouraging the use of stairs to practice a green and healthy lifestyle. UEHers will easily know the goals and milestones they have achieved through the images arranged on the stairs. Through that, Calories Stair hopes that we only need to take one small step every day, our health will be added with an energy point.

The figure of 0.75 calories per step is an example of UEH’s aim to set a specific and easy-to-understand goal, inspiring and motivating the UEHers community to form a positive lifestyle and use stairs every day. Each small step not only contributes to improving personal health but also plays a role in emphasizing the importance of simple actions in building a healthy and active community.
