Reflecting on the 4-Year Journey of the UEH Global Learning Project: Knowledge Transfer and Digital Transformation in Education

20 Jan, 2024

Four years since its launch, the UEH Global Learning Project has achieved remarkable results in partnering with learners, teachers, and local departments to transfer knowledge, digitally transform educational activities, and foster innovative communities for a sustainable future.

Launched in March 2021, the UEH Global Learning Project aims to share and transfer expertise in digital transformation for teaching and learning to high schools, particularly those in geographically remote or disadvantaged areas. Initially, the project offered online teaching and learning platforms, online high school graduation exam preparation courses, and career counseling. By 2024, the UEH Global Learning Project had expanded to include four main program groups:

Free transfer of the UEH Global E-Learning System (Learning Management System - LMS)
Short-term training on school digital transformation, innovation, STEM education, and sustainable development
Sustainable local career guidance
Large-scale practical competitions
Over its four-year journey, with an increasing number of high-quality activities, UEH Global Learning has been creating a comprehensive educational development environment, building valuable platforms for innovation, and promoting digital transformation in teaching and learning in the Mekong Delta region.

Free Transfer of the UEH Global E-Learning System (LMS)

First introduced in 2021, the UEH Global E-Learning System is a platform modeled after UEH's own online teaching system, which has been used for many years to serve 30,000 students annually. This technology transfer initiative addressed the challenges of remote teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic and laid a long-term foundation for the effective use of IT resources. It has helped accelerate the digital transformation process for high schools, contributing to sustainable community development.

UEH successfully transferred the E-Learning System, which includes tools for online essay and multiple-choice exams, paper-based exam shuffling, and an AI-powered automated grading system for multiple-choice tests: https://chamthitracnghiem.ueh.edu.vn/. To disseminate the system to educational institutions across the 13 provinces of the Mekong Delta, UEH collaborated with the Vinh Long Department of Education and Training to organize training sessions on online teaching practices for high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools.

The system has attracted over 2,000 high school teachers from the 13 Mekong Delta provinces, as well as more than 7,000 students and parents who used the platform for exam preparation and career guidance. The platforms and products from the E-Learning System continue to be utilized, supporting the teaching and learning activities of students and teachers across the region.

Short-term Training on Digital Transformation, Innovation, STEM, and Sustainable Development

To support the implementation of the E-Learning System, training sessions were held both in-person and online. Additionally, the project offered short-term, UEH-certified courses to build communities dedicated to enhancing knowledge in innovation, STEM, and sustainable development.

In 2024, recognizing the value of STEM education, UEH intensified its knowledge transfer activities in this area, organizing a "STEM Teaching" Training Program for teachers and students in Vinh Long province. UEH also hosted a Workshop on "Bridging Horizons: Empowering English Language Teaching and Learning" for high school and UEH Mekong students, and the "Dive Into an Actuarial Career" Talkshow (Season 02), all of which provided valuable soft skills and personal development training for the community.

Online courses to enhance digital teaching competencies, such as "E-Lecture Design" and "Video Recording and Editing with Camtasia," attracted over 4,000 views from nearly 500 educators and 3,000 participants in Vinh Long. Soft skills training in critical thinking, problem-solving, and workplace adaptability was also offered through online courses, enabling learners everywhere to experience new learning methods and pursue continuous self-improvement.

Sustainable Local Career Guidance

Understanding the importance of career guidance for young people, UEH has developed multiple platforms and activities under the UEH Global Learning Project.

To support high school students in their final push for graduation exams and career choices, UEH offers a completely free online exam preparation platform for high school students nationwide. This data repository includes all exam questions for subjects like Math, Physics, and History from 2015 to the present, with a self-grading feature.

Additionally, UEH has developed and transferred self-discovery tools like "Understanding You," which was upgraded in 2024 to be accessible on the Zalo platform. This personality assessment program, based on the Holland and MBTI models, helps young people "decode" themselves. For more detailed career counseling, students can also receive free online consultations via the website https://global.ueh.edu.vn/ .

To provide students with a preview of university life and offer direct career counseling, UEH has organized campus tours and advisory sessions at high schools in Vinh Long province. In 2024, the Virtual Open Days event featured 15 engaging career-themed topics, attracting over 38,000 students and parents. Other related activities, such as the "Empowering Tomorrow" Sustainable Career 5.0 Talkshow and the "Uni On the Go" program at UEH Mekong, have helped thousands of prospective students and their parents understand academic programs, career paths, and admission processes, enabling them to make the best choices for their future.

Large-scale Practical Competitions in the Mekong Delta

To create an exciting platform that sparks creativity and promotes innovation in technology and design, UEH has organized several large-scale competitions for high school students in the Mekong Delta. The Robocon UEH 2023 competition, for instance, featured 34 teams of teachers and students who built and competed with their own robots.

Following this success, the 2024 "The STEM UEH Mekong 2024" Competition attracted 77 teams who showcased their products. The event highlighted practical STEM models with a local context and a focus on sustainability, with some projects showing potential for development into startups, thereby promoting the STEM and innovation movement among the region's youth.

In 2024, UEH Mekong also organized the "Drone Champion Vinh Long 2024" Competition for teachers and students passionate about drone technology and programming. The competition attracted 25 teams who competed in "Drone Programming" and "Drone Piloting" categories, creating a vibrant and beneficial playground for the youth of the Mekong Delta.

Over its four-year journey, the UEH Global Learning Project has built a dynamic community of educators and learners who are embracing digital transformation and creative solutions. The training programs, career activities, and practical competitions have ignited a passion for creativity, developed essential skills, and contributed to a solid foundation for digital transformation in education. In the future, UEH Global Learning will continue to partner with schools, organizations, and individuals to enhance the quality of education at the local level.
