Russia - Vietnam Education Cooperation: UEH Attending the 2nd Meeting of the Association of Economic Universities of Russia and Vietnam, and Working with Top Economic Universities in Moscow

From November 25 to 27, 2024, in Moscow, Russian, the delegation from the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) including Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong - Chairman of the University Council, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Quang Hung - Vice President of UEH and Mr. Vo Duc Hoang Vu - Deputy Head of Research - Development and Global Engagement attended the 2nd meeting of the Association of Economic Universities in Russia and Vietnam. This activity was within the framework of education cooperation between the two countries, aiming to promote links between universities while affirming a long-term commitment to developing high-quality human resources.

Association of Economic Universities in Russia and Vietnam: A platform for strategic cooperation

The Association of Economic Universities in Russia and Vietnam was established on September 10, 2024, with the President of University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City and the Rector of the Financial University (FU) under the Government of the Russian Federation as co-chairs. Up to the current time, the Association includes 6 top economic Universities in Russia (Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, Rostov National University of Economics, Saint Petersburg National University of Economics, GVPlekhanov Russian University of Economics, Ural State University of Economics, and All-Russian Academy of Foreign Trade) and 5 economic Universities in Vietnam (University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, National Economics University, Vietnam Banking Academy, University of Economics - Vietnam National University Hanoi, Hanoi University of Finance and Banking).

At the second meeting, the Association adopted a general operating charter, stating the goal of building sustainable cooperation, coordinating research on potential projects and promoting high-quality training programs.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong - Chairman of the UEH Council - emphasized the importance of educational and cultural cooperation between Russia and Vietnam. He expressed his deep gratitude to the Russian Federation, which has trained various generations of Vietnamese intellectuals in the fields of economics, finance, technology, etc. These generations, thanks to the guidance of Russian researchers and professors, have made important contributions to the construction of the Vietnamese education system and become a solid bridge for the strong relationship between the two countries.

Session 2: Towards practical results

At this meeting, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong presented the strategic orientations of UEH, including:

•   Developing a joint degree program between Universities in the association;
•   Strengthening the exchange of lecturers and students, creating a multicultural academic environment;
•   Developing joint research projects, especially in the areas of digital transformation, green economy and sustainable management.

Members of the association also discussed the issue of training human resources with the purpose of not only meeting high professional needs but also suiting the labor market. This is in line with the orientation of the Ministry of Education and Training of both Russia and Vietnam on improving the quality and effectiveness of education cooperation between the two countries.

Visiting and working with the Russian University of Economics named after G.V.Plekhanov

Within the framework of the working trip, the UEH delegation visited and worked at the G.V.Plekhanov Russian University of Economics - one of the top public Universities in Moscow, Russia, specializing in economics and management. Founded in 1907, this is one of the oldest economic higher education institutions in Russia.

The delegation was introduced to the model of businesses operating on university campuses. This was to create conditions for students to participate in practical internships at school. Through the model, students have the opportunity to apply their knowledge into practice and to expand their career opportunities and to connect with potential employers right after graduation.
This model is being applied at UEH, opening up opportunities for cooperation and experience exchange between the two sides. Applying international experiences into practice not only helps UEH students improve their working skills but also contributes to building a training environment closely linked to the requirements of the labor market.

During this visit, representatives of Plekhanov University of Economics expressed their desire to cooperate more closely with UEH in scientific research to jointly solve global economic challenges while enhancing the position of both Universities on the international education map.

As a pioneer in higher education in economics, finance, public management, technology and design in Vietnam, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) is constantly expanding international cooperation to bring sustainable values to society. This working trip to Moscow not only brought about strategic cooperation agreements but also opened up long-term cooperation opportunities between Russian and Vietnamese universities, contributing to strengthening the traditional friendship between the two countries in the field of education and training.
