Sustainable Career Orientation 5.0 - Empowering Tomorrow: Choosing a Major of Study at University in the Uncertain Market

Sustainable Career Orientation 5.0 - Empowering Tomorrow: Choosing a Major of Study at University in the Uncertain Market

In the second episode of Empowering Tomorrow broadcasting on March 30, experts would suggest how to choose a major at university based on understanding yourself, the market and the programs.

In the first episode, Assoc.Prof. Bui Quang Hung - Deputy Director of University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) and Ms. Pham Thi Phuong Khanh - Marketing Director of Navigos Group Vietnam (owner of Vietnamworks) guided young people on how to understand themselves, and skills to respond and adapt to an uncertain labor market.

Continuing the journey of helping students find the three "understandings", including understanding yourselves, understanding the market, and understanding how majors are taught in university, these two experts and Assoc.Prof. Tran Ha Minh Quan, Director of International School of Business ISB, would provide a multi-dimensional perspective on the market and how universities design programs and implement teaching to keep up with trends in an uncertain society.

According to Assoc.Prof. Bui Quang Hung, today's higher education is built on two factors: keeping up with the trends of the times and meeting the needs of the labor market. Accordingly, universities will have significant changes in designing programs towards multi-dimensional, regional and international impacts. That means, after graduating, students have enough skills to develop in both the domestic and global markets.

Ms. Pham Thi Phuong Khanh also commented that: instead of looking to large economic centers like Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, laborers can develop in potential local labor markets as fully equipped with the necessary skill sets at university and understandings of the context.

Assoc.Prof. Tran Ha Minh Quan emphasized that if previous generations listed as Gen X or Y favored a stable career path, Gen Alpha and later generations would have a career path that change at least once or twice into unrelated or closely related fields. That was why universities have strived to accommodate new generations of learners with multi-disciplinary knowledge to be ready for these transitions.

Therefore, with new trends and market shifts, students would have more choices and need to clearly understand the content and teaching methods of the school before making the decision to transition from high school to university. This will be answered by experts in the 2nd  Empowering Tomorrow discussion.

Empowering Tomorrow was co-organized by University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) in collaboration with VnExpress Newspaper, Truong Nguoi Ta fanpage, and live on UEH fanpage channel, UEH Youtube Channel, VnExpress and Truong Nguoi Ta fanpages.

Career orientation is a necessary activity for sustainable development for the future of the young generation, especially for middle and high school students. Accordingly, with the theme "Sustainable Career Orientation 5.0", the program consisted of two episodes with the goal of helping students make decisions about choosing the right career and university. This was an important milestone, requiring adolescents to have a more general view of themselves, the market, and the education system.

“5.0 – the era of a super smart society” will happen with a timeline determined to be 2035 or possibly earlier. This leads to an explosion of many keywords listed as "the rise of super technologies", "enhanced human-machine interaction", and "putting people at the center" and so on. This change impacts people, the labor market, and how universities design their programs.

Therefore, Empowering Tomorrow and its team of experts will help students answer their questions, leading to the making the right decisions for university. Through this, parents can also receive a lot of information and solutions to accompany their children in the future planning process.
