Understanding the difficulties of parents and students in the process of choosing the right major and career, since March 2022, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) has researched, built, and officially launched the tool "Understanding you" (https://hieuveban.ueh.edu.vn/) completely free to attract nearly 12,000 students to take a personality multiple-choice test and receive suggestions for suitable career options. The tool has received strong responses from the high school student community thanks to its function of comparing results and suggesting majors in the list of university training prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam.
The tool “Understanding you” - a career orientation companion, contributing to the sustainable development of future generations
“Understanding you” is a career orientation tool with 02 personality multiple-choice test methods, assessing career capacity used and recommended by leading universities and career experts in the world including Holland and MBTI.
Through the Holland interest multiple-choice test and the MBTI personality multiple-choice test, students were able to identify a group of outstanding occupations corresponding to their own trends in a short time. In particular, in addition to the function of discovering interests and self-understanding, UEH has researched and built an additional function of suggesting suitable majors based on the list of higher education majors in Vietnam of the Ministry of Education and Training as well as training programs at UEH. This has helped parents, students, and students get a comprehensive view of the majors and careers that can be pursued in the future in that field. This is the operating principle of UEH in each enrollment season, which is "to support the young generation to understand correctly and have correct career orientations with themselves, their families and society, and contribute to the sustainable development of future generations”.
12,000 students nationwide have been oriented to sustainable careers
With the participation of nearly 12,000 students including 11,300 grade-12 students, spreading across provinces and cities listed as Ho Chi Minh, Dong Nai, Hanoi, Thanh Hoa, and Da Nang, this is considered one of the great motivations for the school to continue promoting community projects and accompanying Gen Z in their journey of conquering their dreams and discover themselves.
Le Tien Anh - Luong Van Can High School in Ho Chi Minh City shared: "At first, I was a bit skeptical about the test results; in the end, I was quite surprised because both methods gave very specific results, even suggesting majors, therefore, I can easily choose the right major."
Pham Vu Ha - Chau Thanh High School in Kien Giang - shared: "My parents and I have also learned many methods of testing professional personality; however, I find UEH's personality multiple-choice test “Understanding you” quite suitable for 12th graders like me because in addition to discovering professions, it helped me learn more about appropriate majors. My friends at Chau Thanh High School completely like it as well."
Vo Minh Duong - A freshman at UEH Vinh Long Campus - shared: "Although I have been at the school for a year, I still wonder if my choice of major really fits my personality. The results I received made me feel satisfied, since then, I have been more motivated to be able to complete 4 years of study at UEH. The suggestions of new majors helped me decide to enroll in the dual program “Agricultural Business - Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Agribusiness” without hesitation."
Continuing to perfect the tool and sending it to all high school students across the country
In order to accompany and support future generations in their journey of self-discovery along with the school's sustainable orientation, in the near future, the “Understanding you” tool will continue to be further improved on images, sentences, update new trending industries and cooperate with stakeholders, share more widely to the community of high school students and students nationwide.
