Training Course for Lecturers in the Southern Region 2022: “Advanced Statistics with Statistical Software R”
Implementing the plan of the National Key Program in 2022 for the development of Mathematics in the period from 2021 to 2030, the Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics has coordinated with the UEH College of Technology and Design to organize a regional training course for lecturers in the South with the topic "Advanced Statistics with Statistical Software R" since June 7th to 12th, 2022.
Following the successes achieved in the National Key Program for the development of Mathematics in the 2010-2020 period, and to implement the plan of the National Key Program in 2022 for the development of Mathematics, on the morning of 9th June 2022, the Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics cooperated with UEH College of Technology and Design to hold the opening ceremony of the Training Course for Lecturers in the Southern Region in 2022 with the theme "Advanced statistics with statistical software R". The training course has received the attention of more than 90 lecturers, researchers, experts, and managers at universities in the South.
Speaking at the opening of the training course, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Minh Ha - Executive Director of the Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics - stated that the goal of the National Key Program for Math Development in the 2021-2030 period was to strengthen Vietnamese Mathematics sustainably and strongly in all aspects of research, application, and training. The training course would equip trainers with knowledge, combine theoretical and practical teaching, and use statistical software R.

Representing the organizing unit, Dr. Bui Quang Hung - Vice President of UEH - who is in charge of the College of Technology and Design shared: “The field of Mathematics - Statistics plays a very important role and is the center of the development of other professional fields. At UEH in general, and at UEH College of Technology and Design in particular, the development and application of Mathematics - Statistics in Technology and Design will create the premise for innovation and creativity to benefit the community and society and solve the problems of life. Being the organizer of the training course in association with the Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics will help UEH promote its image, affirm its position in the field of Mathematics - Statistics, and become a multidisciplinary and sustainable university.”

The training course took place in 5 days from June 8th-12th, in a face-to-face format. The training course guides and discusses the following topics: inferential statistics for data; practice R; classical Linear Regression model; IRT question-response theory and practice on R; main component analysis and practice on R. In addition to the above topics, the participants would practice directly on the computer, working in groups. At the end of the course, students worked in groups to implement a project to apply the above knowledge and skills to process some real data sets and report to the class. Successful students would be awarded a certificate of completion of the training course issued by the Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics.

After 5 days of studying, experiencing, and working within the framework of the Training Course in the Southern Region in 2022, on the afternoon of June 12th, the closing ceremony of the Training Course took place in a solemn and cozy atmosphere.
Accordingly, on behalf of the Organizing Committee, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Khac Quoc Bao - Deputy Head of UEH College of Technology and Design - thanked the Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics for creating a useful, successful, and meaningful program for the students, lecturers, and researchers participating in the course, thereby helping to make the development of Mathematics - Statistics in Vietnam in general stronger in many aspects. He also wished good health and success to the lecturers of the Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics, the lecturers and students who took part in teaching and learning at the training course. Hopefully, in the future, there will be more meaningful programs and receive more attention from lecturers.
