From October 22 to November 6, 2022, the Center for Economics, Law and Government (CTELG) under the UEH College of Economics, Law and Government (CELG), organized the training program "Applied macroeconomic analysis in media and journalism (AMA)”. The program was organized in 6 sessions with topics on national income accounting and balance of payments, prices and inflation, interest rates, exchange rates, macro stability and the case of Vietnam.

The program has received the attention and participation of nearly 40 students who are UEH lecturers and researchers; reporters, editors of press agencies such as VTV, Thông tấn xã Việt Nam, Báo Thanh niên, Báo Tuổi trẻ, Báo Người lao động, Báo VNExpress, Báo Nhịp cầu đầu tư, Tạp chí Diễn đàn Doanh nghiệp, Tạp chí Kinh tế Sài Gòn; and leaders of companies interested in the topic of macroeconomic impact analysis.

The training course aims to provide knowledge, tools and skills so that participants can understand, analyze reasons and make decisions on the macroeconomic issues that individuals and organizations frequently face on the national and global scale. In addition to the theoretical framework, the case approach will help students enhance their empirical thinking and process diverse macroeconomic information in the context of constantly moving economic activities. This unique approach will assist students in making effective policy decisions and choices in carrying out applied research.

The lecturer of the program is Mr. Chau Van Thanh, currently a lecturer at the School of Economics, UEH College of Economics, Law and Government, and a visiting lecturer in Macroeconomics and Development Policy at Fulbright University Vietnam. He led the Fulbright's teaching staff as the Director of Education from the 2000-2001 school year to the 2007 - 2008 school year.

Course overview

Speaking at the opening of the program, Dr. Pham Khanh Nam - Vice Head of CELG shared: “Macroeconomic analysis is a complex field, requiring practitioners to link sectors in the economy to form a complete picture. However, with in-depth knowledge and dedicated guidance, Mr. Chau Van Thanh will transform complex analytical models on the balance of payments, inflation, interest rates, and exchange rates,... to a system map so that learners can easily understand and immediately relate to the reality of the Vietnamese economy. On behalf of the University, I would also like to thank the students who, despite their busy work, spent weekends attending the program.
