[UEH Alumni Reunion] 40th Graduation Anniversary of Cohort 8 (1986 - 2026): Returning to Continue the Stories of Youth

26 Aug, 2026

40 years after leaving the lecture halls, 120 members of Cohort 8, including 8 former teachers, reunited at Van Thanh Tourist Village on August 8, 2026, for the program celebrating their 40th graduation anniversary (1986 - 2026). The reunion was a journey back to cherished memories, the bonds between teachers and students, and lifelong friendships, where the values of Gratitude and Co-creation are sustained through gratitude, sharing, and connection across generations of UEH alumni.

There are memories that seem to have receded with the years, yet one reunion is all it takes for the stories of those days to be called by name again. The Cohort 8 reunion opened with film footage recreating the journey from the first days of setting foot in the lecture hall, when each person carried their own dreams, enthusiasm and the uncertainties of youth.

Mr. Phạm Văn Châu, Head of the Organising Committee, shared the meaning of the reunion and expressed his thanks to the alumni who had returned from many places

Images from their student days were brought back through a commemorative film, taking members back to the years they spent studying at the University of Economics. From their first steps into the lecture hall to their journey of growth after leaving the University, every frame preserves a part of Cohort 8’s memories.

One of the most moving moments of the programme was the tribute to the teachers. Major General, Prof. Dr. Trương Giang Long shared his deep affection for generations of students, recalling the teacher-student bond that has been nurtured over many years. His words were also a reminder that, throughout a career of teaching and service, generations of students remain a precious source of inspiration.

From 10 specialised classes such as Statistics, Pricing, Banking, Accounting and many other fields, stories of their student years were recalled one after another. Cycling to campus, life during the subsidy era, days of hardship that were nevertheless full of laughter - all became shared memories, retold by members with humour and affection.

Behind the stories of the difficulties and scarcity of that time lay the optimism and the friendships formed over years of studying and sharing together. It is precisely those memories that created the thread of connection, so that after 40 years the members can still find one another in stories that remain so familiar.

The stories shared were made all the more complete by the contributions of Cohort 8’s members. The Organising Committee presented flowers and gifts of appreciation to Lê Khánh - the creator of the programme - and to a representative of the Commerce 8 Class, the sponsoring group, in recognition of their support and enthusiastic contributions that helped make the reunion so meaningful. This was also a fine expression of the spirit of Co-creation, with each member contributing so that the connecting values of the UEH Alumni community continue to be carried forward.

The reunion atmosphere continued through exchange and connection activities. Questions about the dormitory, the 1982 and 1986 World Cups and the places once visited on field trips brought members back to the distinctive hallmarks of their student years.

The musical performances also became a special part of the programme’s memories. Melodies evoking life in the subsidy era, meals of rice stretched with sweet potato and days of scarcity brought laughter, emotion and moments of closeness among the members.

Exchange activities, games and performances recreate the familiar memories of their student years.

The cutting of the cake marking 40 years since graduation became a special milestone of the reunion. Forty years have passed and each person has followed their own path, yet their shared memories at the University remain the meeting point for generations to return, share and continue writing new stories.

The Cohort 8 reunion closed in a lively, warm atmosphere, leaving behind smiles, handshakes and stories that carried on well after the programme. After four decades, friendship, the teacher-student bond and pride in their alma mater remain the enduring values that connect the members.

Every homecoming by generations of alumni is another occasion for memories to be preserved and connections to be further nurtured. From the affection formed under the roof of the University all those years ago, the UEH Alumni community continues to gather more fine stories of connection, companionship and a shared devotion to their alma mater.
