UEH and The International Institute of Social Studies (Netherlands) discussed the international cooperation programs

On the afternoon of October 11, 2021, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) had an online meeting with the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), Erasmus University Rotterdam (Netherlands). The meeting discussed the international cooperation programs and memorandum of understanding on training cooperation between UEH and ISS. Furthermore, it marked an effort in the deep and practical collaboration between UEH and Erasmus University Rotterdam, improving international training quality.

On the UEH side, there were Prof. Su Dinh Thanh - President, Prof. Nguyen Trong Hoai - Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Asian Business and Economic Studies (JABES), Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Phong Nguyen - Deputy Head of Department of Research Administration and International Relations. Dr. Pham Duong Phuong Thao - Deputy Head of Department of Research Administration and International Relations, Dr. Pham Khanh Nam - Dean of School of Economics.

On the side of the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), Erasmus University Rotterdam (Netherlands), there were Prof. Inge Hutter - Rector of ISS, Prof. Arjun Bedi - Deputy Rector Research Affairs, Prof. Karin Arts - Deputy Rector Teaching Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Matthias Rieger - the coordinator of the master and PhD program with UEH.

Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Prof. Su Dinh Thanh - President of UEH, officially introduced to ISS about the restructuring strategy of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, establishing a multidisciplinary university from 2021 to 2025. Three colleges will be established in 2021, including College of Business; College of Economics, Law and Government; College of Technology and Design. This strategy is significant for promoting UEH's achievements and sustainable development in the past 45 years, reaching out to the region in the coming period.

“Along with the restructuring strategy, UEH always respects and encourages the development of international cooperation relationships. Especially with the good and deep cooperation in the past, UEH and ISS will have more opportunities to cooperate and work together on college education and scientific research projects in the coming period. In particular, the meeting will discuss updating the Master program, double degree training,... I believe that the cooperation of UEH and ISS is timely and appropriate, encouraging new development for both sides, contributing to the improvement of the quality of international training” - Prof. Su Dinh Thanh emphasized.

Prof. Inge Hutter – ISS President, shared: “Despite the complicated situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, the cooperation relationship between UEH and ISS is still well maintained. We appreciate the effectiveness of this partnership. In addition, I support UEH's restructuring strategy and hope that the cooperation relationship between ISS and UEH will be deeper in the coming time."

At the meeting, representatives of both sides discussed three cooperative training programs between ISS and UEH: Vietnam - Netherlands Program, double degree program, and PhD training program. Vietnam - Netherlands Program was established in 1994, marking the long-term, durable, and practical cooperation between UEH and ISS - Erasmus University Rotterdam. From this success, the double degree program was started in 2017, in which ISS recognized 1.5 years of study at UEH. Students who have learned six months at ISS can get 2 Master degrees in Applied Economics by UEH and Development Studies by ISS. The PhD program was started in 2019, free of charge to learners, and on completion, they are awarded a PhD degree from Erasmus University Rotterdam.

ISS is the International Institute of Social Studies under Erasmus University Rotterdam (Netherlands), ranked 12th in the world and leading in the Netherlands in the field of Development Research. ISS Trains Master, PhD programs and researches with 04 main topic groups: inequality and social protection; conflict and peace; migration and diversity; environment and climate change.

The ISS Institute is UEH's longtime academic partner. Since 1994, within the framework of the Education Cooperation Project between the governments of Vietnam and the Netherlands, the Vietnam - Netherlands Program (VNP) was born and operated by Erasmus University Rotterdam and University of Economics Ho Chi Minh. During 27 years of cooperation, ISS-EUR and UEH have trained generations of successful students in many fields, providing high-quality human resources for the labor market in Vietnam and internationally. As a result, many former students now hold senior positions in the Government apparatus, government organizations, financial institutions, domestic and foreign enterprises, and universities.

With excitement and genuineness, Prof. Su Dinh Thanh invited Prof. Inge Hutter, Prof. Arjun Bedi, Prof. Karin Arts, and members from ISS to attend the 45th Anniversary of UEH and the launching ceremony of UEH University taking place on October 27.
