Overview of the conference
ACBES 2026's Outstanding Internationalization Highlights
ACBES 2026 was honored to welcome four keynote speakers who are among the world's leading scholars: Professor Karen Macours (Paris School of Economics, France; Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Development Economics), Associate Professor Alminas Žaldokas (National University of Singapore, Singapore; Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Corporate Finance), Professor Hans Lööf (KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden), and especially Professor Esther Duflo (Massachusetts Institute of Technology - MIT, USA), recipient of the 2019 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences.

In addition to the keynote sessions, ACBES 2026 also featured a series of specialized workshops for doctoral candidates (PhD Lectures), led by Dr. Aila Khan (Western Sydney University, Australia), Associate Professor Bin Wang (Monash University, Australia; Editorial Board Member of JABES-E), Professor Nguyen Thi Tuyet Mai (National Economics University, Vietnam; Editorial Board Member of JABES-E), and Dr. Huynh Luu Duc Toan (UEH, Vietnam; Queen Mary University of London, United Kingdom). These sessions provided valuable opportunities for doctoral candidates and early-career researchers to gain first-hand insights into research methodology and international publishing from leading experts.

ACBES 2026 received 320 research paper submissions. Following a rigorous peer-review process, 161 high-quality papers were accepted for presentation. Of these, 67% were contributed by international authors and research teams, including Japan (8%), Indonesia (8%), India (7%), China (6%), the United Kingdom (5%), the Philippines (4%), Thailand (3%), as well as many other countries such as the United States, France, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Nepal, Singapore, and Australia. The conference also brought together 44 distinguished session chairs from Vietnam and abroad, who moderated 56 parallel sessions featuring 180 authors and co-authors.
In addition to JABES (SCOPUS Q1, ABDC Rank B, ESCI, ERIM), ACBES 2026 received academic sponsorship from prestigious international journals, including Evaluation Review (SCOPUS Q1, ABDC Rank A, SSCI), International Finance (SCOPUS Q2, ABDC Rank B, SSCI), Journal of Economics and Development (SCOPUS Q1, ABDC Rank C), and the European Journal of Finance (SCOPUS Q1, ABDC Rank A, SSCI). The conference also received financial support from the International Institute of Social Studies, Erasmus University Rotterdam (The Netherlands).
A Scientific Conference Bridging Research and International Publication
ACBES 2026 was held over two days, with two complementary focal areas. On 3 August, alongside in-depth workshops on international peer-review practices, doctoral candidates and promising early-career researchers participated in discussion sessions where they presented research proposals or draft manuscripts in progress. These sessions enabled participants to receive direct feedback from distinguished scholars and experts on theoretical frameworks, research design, and publication readiness. On 4 August, the main conference featured keynote presentations and publication-ready research papers, providing a platform for leading scholars to present completed, high-quality studies while engaging directly with internationally renowned academics to enhance publication opportunities.
Presentation and discussion sessions at ACBES 2026
Academically, ACBES 2026 attracted a wide range of research in economics and business, focusing on emerging and interdisciplinary topics in the context of digital transformation and sustainable development. Prominent themes included behavioral economics and behavioral finance in the era of big data and artificial intelligence (AI), central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), the circular economy, climate-resilient agriculture, big data-driven corporate governance, as well as emerging issues such as human–AI interaction, legal frameworks for cryptocurrencies, economic analysis, and global trade competition. Beyond the academic presentations, the conference also served as a platform for scholars to connect, exchange research findings, and foster future collaborative initiatives.
As part of ACBES 2026, JABES convened an extended Editorial Board Meeting with the participation of Editorial Board members and numerous international scholars and experts. During the meeting, participants discussed and proposed strategic directions to further enhance JABES's academic quality, publishing standards, and international standing in the years ahead.
Summary of ACBES 2026
At the closing session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Quang Hung, President of UEH, expressed his sincere appreciation to all participants and emphasized the important role of JABES and the ACBES international conference series in serving as a bridge that brings Vietnamese scholars to the global academic community while making global knowledge more accessible to researchers in Vietnam. Following this, Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh, Chairman of the UEH Academic and Training Council, invited ACBES participants to submit their research to JABES, with the aim of strengthening collaboration across the global research community.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, Prof. Nguyen Trong Hoai, Chair of ACBES 2026, delivered the closing remarks, highlighting the conference's remarkable achievements while expressing his hope that JABES and ACBES will continue serving as a bridge to foster a vibrant and globally connected academic community.

In addition, on behalf of the Organizing Committee, Dr. Huynh Luu Duc Toan shared preliminary information about ACBES 2027. The next conference is expected to welcome two keynote speakers in person: Professor Robert Sparrow (Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands) and Professor Abhijit Banerjee (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA), recipient of the 2019 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences.

As ACBES 2026 came to a close, many scholars expressed their appreciation to the Organizing Committee for its dedication to sustaining this annual conference series and building a prestigious academic forum where researchers can connect, exchange ideas, and develop collaborative research initiatives. In particular, Dr. Aila Khan from Western Sydney University, Australia, remarked: “ACBES 2026 is one of the most impressively organized conferences I have ever attended. It is a model that universities can learn from, as beyond their missions of education and research, creating opportunities for international academic networking in a professional, well-organized, yet open and welcoming environment plays a vital role in fostering collaboration and advancing knowledge.”
