UEH continuing towards achieving important results in international publications in 2021

In accordance with the final report for 2021, UEH has had 507 articles published in prestigious international journals under Web of Science, Scopus and ABDC databases (Grade B or beyond), an increase of 33% compared to that of 2020 with an outstanding quality. This is an important result in terms of UEH international publication, contributing to realizing the vision of becoming a multidisciplinary university with academic reputation and sustainable action in Asia by 2030.

In 2021, UEH noted 507 articles published in prestigious international journals under Web of Science, Scopus and ABDC databases (Grade B or higher). The results of international publication analysis from Scopus database indicate that UEH has been holding a high position among universities in Vietnam with the highest number of international publications in the fields of economics, business and law.

Figure 1 shows the number of Scopus international publications in Social science and Management segments for 2019 – 2021 period between UEH and a number of public universities in QS Asia Ranking. The number of UEH international publications in this field increased rapidly from more than 100 articles in 2019 to more than 500 articles in 2021.

In terms of detailed analysis regarding Accounting and Finance specializations, UEH also continued to show UEH leading position. From more than 30 articles in 2019, the number of Scopus publications in this segment grows to more than 100 articles in 2020 and more than 140 articles in 2021 (Figure 2).

In terms of Economics and Econometrics majors, UEH also exhibits our tradition of leading and excelling with the number of Scopus publications in 2021 over 240 articles, an increase of 50% compared to that of 2020 (160 articles) (Figure 3).

In addition to quantity criterion, international publication in 2021 has also shown an increase in terms of quality criterion. In 2021, ISI, SCI and SCIE publications have a rate of 87.23% of articles published in journals ranked in Q1 and Q2 groups in accordance with Scimago (in which Q1 ranking accounts for 57.97%). Most of UEH internationally-published articles are published in journals on prestigious publishers recognized by National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (NAFOSTED), listed as Springer, Elsevier, Wiley-Blackwell, Taylor and Francis, Sage and Emerald.

The results of comparing the number of citations on 2021 paper between UEH and other public universities in QS Asia Ranking show that UEH has the highest average number of citations per article in 2021 (above 2.5 citations per article) whereas that of other public universities have coefficients around 1.5 and below (Figure 4).

The analysis results between UEH international publications through Scopus database also indicate the impact factor of UEH's citations in 2021 compared to that of other universities in the world in terms of the same research field (Field-weighted citation impact) as 2.4, significantly higher than a factor of 1.0 (the world average) whereas that of other universities in the world has a coefficient of approximately 1.5 and below.

As seen from Figure 6, in terms of the percentage of Scopus articles within Q1-group journals (in the Top 25% of journals in terms of specific specialization), UEH has the leading position with a rate of over 55% in 2021. The fact that those of all other public universities reach lower rates (ranging from 30% to 47%) further affirms the quality of UEH international publication in recent years as well as aims for the higher publication in the upcoming future.

The above analysis on the quantity and quality of international publications in 2021 published by UEH affirms UEH great efforts towards scientific research for maintaining a high position in terms of international publication among Vietnamese universities for many consecutive years.

These results not only confirm UEH academic and research reputation in the country but also play the role of an important factor in assisting UEH achieve diverse encouraging achievements in international arena on prestigious rankings: Top 551 + The best university in Asia 2022 (QS Asia University Rankings 2022); Ranking 376^th in international ranking of research institutions in Asia (SCImago); Being the first position among universities within economics and business majors in Vietnam in terms of digitization capacity and spillover of academic resources (Webometrics, 2021); Top 25 Universities in the world in Knowledge Transfer major, In accordance with “Contributing to lifelong career development” standard for consecutive 2016-2020 period (U-Multirank) and so on.

UEH has achieved the above marvelous results thanks to the correct direction of UEH leadership team with policies to encourage and create conditions for lecturers and officials to promote scientific research activities. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Đông Phong - Chairman of UEH University Council shared: “In recent years, UEH scientific research activities have made strong strides in both breadth and depth. The number and the quality of articles published in prestigious international journals increase year by year with practical contributions to national economic and social development. This means that UEH policy of renewing academic research has been on the right track together with the outstanding efforts of UEH leadership, research team, lecturers and staff. Continuing to maintain and promote the above spirit, I firmly and strongly believe that UEH will develop more and more on our way towards becoming a research university, continuing to rank up in the international arena and increasing UEH presence in the prestige world rankings”.

Having passed our 45-year milestone of construction and development, UEH has entered a new stage of development with the strategy of becoming a multidisciplinary and sustainable university, a university with a high reputation in Vietnam for training, research, consulting and criticizing economic policy, business, law and business information system. New opportunities and challenges continue to motivate all UEHers to work, study and research for the development of UEH and of scientific knowledge towards creating a practical resonance and more effective for our society.
