UEH Expands Community-Based Learning Programs in Local Schools and Communities

20 Sep, 2023

As a leading institution committed to community outreach, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) has actively implemented off-campus educational programs. These initiatives aim to equip UEH students, local school students, teachers, and community partners with essential knowledge and skills for the modern era, aligning with a strategy to ensure no one is left behind.

UEH Global - A Knowledge Transfer Initiative for the Community

UEH Global is one of the university’s ongoing projects dedicated to fulfilling this mission. Over the past three years, it has progressed through three phases. The first phase provided infrastructure, technical support, and methodologies for teachers and students in the Mekong Delta, enabling them to continue online teaching and learning through the UEH platform during the pandemic. In the second phase, UEH Global introduced tools and training for digital lesson planning, supporting schools in advancing their digital transformation goals. As a result, UEH has issued over 2,500 certificates for completed courses. Currently, UEH Global is helping teachers and students in the Mekong Delta develop entrepreneurial and innovation skills through a STEM teaching program. A recent collaboration with the Department of Education and Training of Vinh Long attracted a large number of teachers and students, creating momentum for UEH Global to expand this initiative across the Mekong Delta region.

STEM Teaching Program Launched in Vinh Long

On March 18, 2023, UEH, in partnership with the Vinh Long Department of Education and Training, launched a STEM Teaching Program for high school teachers and students in Vinh Long. The program offers knowledge, skills, and resources to support career guidance and scientific research among students and enhances professional training for teachers. It also identifies and incubates promising projects in robotics and artificial intelligence through UEH’s Mekong Innovation Incubator. The program continued with additional STEM sessions for high schools in Khanh Hoa in May 2023 and featured the memorable UEH Robocon Competition 2023.

Community-Based Learning Experiences by UEH College of Economics, Law, and Government

Committed to strengthening local partnerships and linking academic knowledge to real-world issues, the UEH College of Economics, Law, and Government (CELG) organizes annual community-connected learning programs. Early in 2023, students from CELG’s School of Government took part in a field program at the People’s Committee of Thua Duc, Ben Tre, under a partnership with FACOD-Vietnam. CELG also facilitated practical learning experiences for students at various local institutions, including the Agricultural Hi-tech Park in Ho Chi Minh City and an advanced dairy farming facility.

In 2023, the School of Government (SOG) at the UEH College of Economics, Law, and Government (CELG) collaborated with local authorities and businesses to facilitate practical learning experiences for Public Management majors. This initiative provided students with hands-on opportunities to engage in real-world projects, address practical challenges, and develop strong technical expertise, soft skills, creativity, self-learning abilities, and problem-solving flexibility. These skills are crucial for adapting to the rapid societal shifts in the digital age. Students also visited the Agricultural Hi-tech Park of Ho Chi Minh City (AHTP) and an advanced dairy farming demonstration center that utilizes Israeli technology, further enriching their practical understanding of high-tech agricultural production.

Field trips offer students valuable insights into business operations, local development, and the future direction of agricultural advancements in Vietnam. These experiences allow students to put their academic knowledge into practice, actively contributing to the growth of both the agricultural sector and the wider community and society..

Summer Camps and Hackathons for Nationwide Student Development

UEH creates collaborative platforms such as the Mekong Summer Camp and UEH Biztech Hackathon, fostering student growth nationwide. The UEH Summer Camp 2023, themed "Global Mind, Local Life," spanned from June 26 to July 25, 2023, offering students from various schools the chance to engage in practical experiences in Vinh Long, covering knowledge, simulations, and skill development.
