The University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) is committed to fostering awareness of gender equality and fairness in education, learning, and research, particularly among its female students. With a focus on gender sensitivity and inclusion, UEH has organized a range of activities (mentoring, scholarships, other provisions) aimed at empowering women and promoting gender equality, with over 70% of attendees in each program being female. Here’s a look at some of the university’s standout efforts in 2023 to support, advise, and empower female students at UEH.
As part of its gender equality awareness initiatives, UEH disseminates valuable insights through its monthly Enews newsletter, providing female students and those interested in gender equality with concise and relevant information. Popular articles like Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Fairy Tales and The Woman Who Carries the Weight of History have resonated deeply within the UEH community, not only for their intriguing content but also for their message about the role of women in modern society.
Additionally, to discuss and explore diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) in the workplace and sustainable development, UEH’s Student Support Office hosted a workshop titled The Inclusive Generation: Breaking Down Barriers. This event attracted over 300 students eager to learn from speakers sharing their experiences of working in diverse environments and practical tips on protecting oneself in the workplace.

Recognizing the high level of student interest in gender equality and issues of gender diversity, the Department of Student Affairs (DSA) hosted a special session on September 14, 2023, titled Afternoon Tea: Learning about SOGIESC. This session offered a chance to explore foundational concepts of gender and sexuality, with the goal of promoting sexual education and creating a safer learning environment. The event helped raise social awareness of the diversity of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and sex characteristics (SOGIESC), building an inclusive and supportive campus culture.
Gender education events attracting interested students
UEH, in collaboration with sponsors and corporate partners, has provided various scholarships for its students, equitably distributed based on academic performance and extracurricular engagement. Notably, 74% of scholarships awarded in 2023 went to female students, highlighting UEH’s commitment to supporting women in their academic pursuits.
To cultivate an environment where women can thrive, UEH has increased initiatives designed to raise awareness on gender and equality. The Equal Voice 2023 competition, an interactive educational event, aimed to provide students with knowledge of gender equality laws and awareness-raising activities while encouraging the dismantling of gender stereotypes in both academic settings and daily life. The competition, held from October 27 to November 18, 2023, drew over 4,700 student participants.
