On the journey to spread the positive values of green university to the community, UEH Green Campus organized "UEH Green Campus's Green Partner" to spread the Green University model to Vietnam-Germany University - VGU Green Inspiration. The session was successful, clearly demonstrating the mission of the UEH Green Campus Living lab model in bringing the achievements experimented on campus to share with the surrounding community.
“UEH Green Campus's Green Partner” is organized by the UEH Green Campus project with the aim of sharing, spreading and transferring experiences, achievements and products in the process of implementing green universities to other schools or businesses. The session was attended by:
- Ms. Le Thi Hanh An - Deputy Head of Department of Communications and Partnership, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), Member of UEH Sustainable University Project Board, Project Manager of UEH Green Campus;
- Nguyen Thi Thuong Nho - Secretary of UEH Youth Union;
- Nguyen Thi Thanh Binh - UEH Green Campus project specialist;
- Tran Truong Thanh Truong - Permanent collaborator of UEH Green Campus project;
- Phan Van Chi Thien - Representative of Choice Environmental Company;
- Nguyen Thi Kim Tri - Director of the Library of Vietnam-Germany University, Leader of VGU Green Inspiration;
- With the participation of members from the VGU Green Inspiration and representatives from other departments and divisions.
The UEH Green Campus project was established to realize the multidisciplinary and sustainable strategy of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, deployed and implemented according to the Living lab model. Accordingly, UEH has considered its campuses as a laboratory to experiment with new measures and products to influence awareness and to change the actions of students every day.
Introduction to UEH Green Campus project
First established in 2021, after 4 years of formation and development, the UEH Green Campus project has obtained certain achievements, affirming the right and successful transformation from its strategy. In the 2021-2023 period, the project focuses on solving the waste problem, starting with the Zero Waste Campus campaign. "Zero Waste Campus is neither a zero-waste nor a waste-free university, this comes from the awareness that it is not wasteful but a resource if we behave properly, classify it properly and handle it properly" - stated UEH Green Campus project representative. Since 2023, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City has set a goal to move towards a bigger picture, gradually transforming into a Green Campus and spreading beyond the UEH framework. By 2024, the products of the UEH Green Campus project have gradually taken shape and spread strongly to the community.
Nguyen Thi Thanh Binh - UEH Green Campus project specialist - introducing the project
When asked about the difficulties and the challenges encountered when implementing the UEH Green Campus project, Ms. Le Thi Hanh An shared: “For environmental projects, we need to be patient and go step by step. The project implementers themselves must have an open mind and spirit, get ahead of the problem and find solutions to solve it.”
With previous experience, UEH pointed out 3 specific challenges in implementing the project. Firstly, programs and activities related to the environment in Vietnam are often understood and viewed as short-term movements. Therefore, UEH chose to implement the Living Lab model to be able to integrate it into the core functions of training and research. Secondly, it is very difficult to convince the entire university to view this as an important project that contributes to the process of becoming a new model of UEH. Therefore, it is necessary to start from the strategic vision of the whole school from the top down. Finally, the results of the project are difficult to see in the short term and challenge the perseverance of the implementation team. Therefore, it is necessary to decompose the measurement indicators and set small, feasible goals.

Regarding the approach to learners, Nguyen Thi Thuong Nho - Secretary of the UEH Youth Union - remarked: "The difficulty and the challenge is to influence awareness and to change actions so that they are not forced but gradually change learners' perceptions". To solve that problem, activities and programs for learners at UEH are integrated, flexible and organized in parallel with topics related to the UEH Green Campus project. This is the foundation for students to gradually become interested and influenced and to have more opportunities to learn the project. Nguyen Thi Thuong Nho asserted: "We must understand to be able to act, we must understand from the source and the reason for that action. If we follow the movement direction, it will be quick and neat, but this is not effective". In addition, the implementation is not constrained to 3R (Reduce - Reuse - Recycle) but requires actions with the ultimate goal of learners' action, bringing the project's messages into practice.

Accordingly, there are two important goals in implementing the project “Let's Green Unitour” which is to spread awareness and knowledge of green universities to the partner school and students. Concurrently, after the organization, if the partner school wishes to continue, UEH will support them in planning and providing comments and edits, as well as transferring important products in the UEH Green Campus project to them.
At the end of the session, Ms. Le Thi Hanh An stated: “Being central to the success of an environmental project is made by small groups but has a large and positive impact, and spreading to the community. UEH is lucky to have leaders with innovative thinking, project members and dynamic participants. Finally, we need to always stay optimistic, have a flexible view when implementing the project, and plan for difficulties and challenges to prepare for solutions because we are inspirational and pioneering”.
