With a strategy for a Multidisciplinary and Sustainable University aimed at the sustainable development of society, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) increasingly enhances activities to connect the university with governmental agencies, scientists, associations, businesses, and the alumni community through the program "Connecting the Community - Spreading Knowledge - Sustainable Actions," to disseminate knowledge and incorporate sustainable values into the community, contributing to social development.
Connecting training to practical experience: Creating real value for learners and partners
In 2024, with 68 MOUs signed and 635 activities with business units, UEH continues to affirm their role in enhancing the quality of education and providing real value for students and business teams. Through collaboration items listed as Internships, Corporate semesters, Real-world visits, Expert sharing, and Demand-driven training, UEH, alongside businesses and partners, has brought positive values: 3,436 businesses participated in corporate semesters, engaged in projects of companies in various subjects and projects; 4,031 students participated in corporate semesters; 1,147 students took part in company tour visits; 30 extracurricular career orientation programs and soft skills training for over 19,700 students; More than 4.5 billion VND from demand-driven training programs; 11 editions of the E-newsletter updating information and sharing knowledge with over 500 businesses and partners. These efforts not only effectively meet the demands of labor market transformation but also contribute to achieving sustainable development goals SDG4, SDG 16 - enhancing education quality and building a peaceful, just, and inclusive society.
Connecting research and projects: Enhancing understanding of sustainable development in Vietnam
Promoting the effectiveness of the Research pillar “Research Contribution for All - Research for Community Benefit”, UEH has implemented 12 consulting contracts, transfers signed between UEH and partners, 50 policy-research studies commissioned by government agencies, local authorities; organized 19 international workshops, 3 national workshops, and specialized reports, contributing importantly to current social issues; approved 82 projects (including 1 project at Nafosted level, 11 Departmental projects and equivalent, 70 University-level projects); 10 State-level projects registered this year; 42 scientific research projects related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) according to UEH’s orientation; 1297 student research projects completed with 689 projects awarded; 127 registered student research projects and initiatives focusing on new idea development, technology application, solutions for sustainable development, circular economy, green living, zero waste, emission reduction, sustainable local economic development, and published 481 research articles in international journals.
One of the notable highlights collaborating with partners is the EU4 Sustainability project - the first project under the Jean Monnet Actions of UEH - funded by the European Union through the Erasmus program. As of now, Vietnam has fewer than 10 higher education institutions nationwide receiving funding from the Jean Monnet Actions project, and UEH is proud to be one of them. After a year of implementation with universities and businesses, the project has prepared and taught 7 courses for students and graduate students on topics: Sustainable development as a global trend; Sustainable Development Goals in the European program; Sustainable finance and investment of the European Union; Research on sustainable European society; Sustainable development in the external relations of the European Union; Sustainable development and the common principles of European Union law; The European Union's Green Protocol: prospects and challenges.
Connecting to attract human resources: Spreading the recruitment brand, meeting the need for high-quality human resources
In order to promote comprehensive and sustainable economic growth, providing equal job opportunities for all learners, UEH has organized a series of outstanding business connection activities such as UEH Sharing - Career Fair, Internship and Job Fair in Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta region, creating conditions for students to approach reputable employers. The program has offered over 7,000 job opportunities with the participation of nearly 200 businesses from various fields including Banking - Finance - Insurance, Securities, Accounting, Auditing, Consulting, Consumer Goods - Food, Technology - E-commerce, Construction - Real Estate, Trade - Import-Export - Logistics, Manufacturing - Materials - Energy, and more.
In particular, UEH's job portal has strongly attracted the interest of learners through online channels, with over 9,118 new profiles created in 2024, an increase of 80% compared to the previous year. Along with that, 03 trial interview sessions in March, July, and November 2024 have connected learners with leading businesses in many fields, helping students practice practical skills, ready to conquer employers right from the classroom.
Connecting ideas, startup projects, and innovation: A launchpad for a sustainable startup ecosystem
The UEH Institute of Innovation (UII) - under UEH - is one of the most active startup support units in the startup ecosystem in Ho Chi Minh City, accompanying founders with innovative solutions - technology applications to address community issues. It is the only university-affiliated incubator in Vietnam recognized as one of the top ten organizations supporting innovative startups in Southeast Asia (AsiaStar 10×10 Launchpad).
In addition to developing the startup ecosystem in Ho Chi Minh City, in 2024, UEH inaugurated the Mekong Delta Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (MCIE) with the mission to disseminate knowledge, promote and develop the startup ecosystem in the Mekong Delta region. In the past year, UEH successfully incubated 32 innovative startup projects in Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong region. These projects not only foster the entrepreneurial spirit within the community but also create breakthrough solutions, contributing to the sustainable development of the region and the country.
