The Institute of Smart City Management (ISCM) of the UEH College of Technology and Design teams up with the Ida C. & Morris Falk Foundation (ICM Falk Foundation) to bring a 3-part event series called Circular Economy to higher education institutions, starting on June 16.
The development of the circular economy has gained greater attention in recent years. It is now widely seen as an essential global development trend contributing to economic progress while avoiding negative environmental impacts. The Institute of Smart Cities and Management (ISCM) of UEH College of Technology and Design in collaboration with the Ida C. and Morris Falk Foundation (ICM Falk Foundation) and other partners, co-organized a three-part series of events called "Circular Economy Development in Universities" to share knowledge with the community and encourage people to act for a sustainable future. The event, which included representatives from various fields, focused on leveraging ideas and topics in building a circular economy to support environmental protection while raising awareness of sustainable, responsible production and consumption.
The series begins with a webinar titled "Circular Economy and Innovation Around Universities'' which was held on June 16, 2022 at ISCM Studiolab 232/6 Vo Thi Sau District 3. The event aims to provide on-the-ground insights and pragmatic advice from local stakeholders on building a sustained support ecosystem in order to drive university-based innovation for a circular transition in Vietnam. The event will welcome the participation of private funders and entrepreneurs: Matthew McGarvey, Co-founder and Partner at Xylem Capital and CIO at PRIM Vietnam; Nhan Nguyen, Founder of Refill Vietnam and Associate Lecturer at RMIT Vietnam; Tram Nguyen, Project Manager for Vietnam at WasteAid.
According to Dr. Bui Quang Hung – Vice President of UEH University- this is a meaningful activity that helps raise awareness of the global transition trend for sustainable growth across various audiences. UEH is currently implementing sustainable action programs and developing a sustainable UEH university based on five pillars: education, research, operation, governance, and community. Dr. Bui Quang Hung expects that these UEH projects would have more innovative and beneficial ideas through sharing and discussing with experts.
Ms. Tiphaine Pham and the guests shared entrepreneurs' ideas and initiatives in the trend of circular economy development and effective ways of implementing new initiatives. They emphasized the role of universities as an important factor in scientific and technological research activities and cross-sectoral cooperation to provide innovative ideas, contributing to the development of the domestic and international start-up ecosystem.
Future events in August and September will focus on training and learning for a circular economy transition, research, and academia in a circular economy transition. It brings together university researchers, lecturers, and funders to discuss their roles and opportunities to fast-track a circular economy transition within Vietnam.
