UEH - NEU Joint National Scientific Conference: Sustainable Industrial Development and Refining the National Digital Data Governance Framework in the New Context

On January 15, 2026, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), in collaboration with the National Economics University (NEU), hosted a national scientific conference. This was an important academic forum, bringing together scientists, managers, experts, and representatives from government agencies, universities, and businesses to discuss and propose scientific foundations for national policymaking.

The national scientific conference is a key activity within the framework of two national-level science and technology research projects: "Researching the Scientific Basis and Proposing Solutions for Sustainable National Industrial Development to 2030, with a Vision to 2045" (code: KX.01.09/21-30), and "Refining the Institutional Framework for Building and Governing National Digital Data to Create Momentum for Rapid and Sustainable National Development in the New Context" (code: KX.05.12/21-30).

From UEH, attendees included: Prof. Dr. Nguyen Khac Quoc Bao – UEH Party Committee Secretary; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong – Chairman of the UEH Development Strategy Council; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Bich Nguyet – UEH Alumni Chairwoman; along with the research team members and representatives from member colleges, departments, and schools.

From NEU, attendees included: Prof. Dr. Tran Tho Dat – Chairman of the NEU Scientific and Training Council; Dr. Trinh Mai Van – Deputy Head of the NEU Department of Scientific Management; and senior lecturers Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thua Loc and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hieu.

In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Khac Quoc Bao affirmed: "In the context of Vietnam's economy facing new demands for transforming its growth model towards sustainability and enhancing national competitiveness, the two themes of this conference are of particular scientific and practical significance. Based on academic analysis and dialogue, the conference is expected to propose feasible solutions, contributing to refining the institutional framework and enhancing the effectiveness of digital data governance, thereby creating a crucial foundation for the nation's rapid and sustainable development in the new context."

In his introductory remarks, Prof. Dr. Tran Tho Dat, Chairman of the NEU Scientific and Training Council, shared: "This conference is an occasion for scientists and managers to exchange research findings and practical experiences, thereby providing a scientific basis for analyzing the current situation and proposing orientations and policies for sustainable industrial development in Vietnam. The papers presented have been selected and organized into key thematic groups, focusing on the ecosystem for sustainable national industrial development as well as the new challenges posed by the green and digital transitions."

With two presentation sessions—"Sustainable National Industrial Development – Achievements and Emerging Issues (Session 1)" and "The Current State and Solutions for Refining the Institutional Framework for National Digital Data Governance to Meet the Demands for Rapid and Sustainable Development (Session 2)"—the conference focused on clarifying the current state of industrial development and national digital data governance in Vietnam.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Duong from the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Ho Chi Minh City presenting on: "Building and Governing National Digital Data: International Experience and the Need for Institutional Refinement in Vietnam."

Dr. Ngo Tan Vu Khanh presenting on: "Practical Realities of Refining the Institutional Framework for National Digital Data Governance in Vietnam: Challenges and Requirements."

Following the in-depth presentations, a lively discussion session was held, chaired by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Khac Quoc Bao and Prof. Dr. Tran Tho Dat, featuring insightful contributions from the attending scientists, experts, and managers.

The national scientific conference concluded with many important scientific foundations and insights, contributing to the theoretical and practical basis for the implementation of the two national-level S&T tasks led by UEH and NEU. Through serious and multidimensional academic dialogue, the conference reaffirmed the role of higher education institutions in partnering with the state to research and propose solutions for sustainable national industrial development and to refine the institutional framework for national digital data governance, thereby making a tangible contribution to the nation's goal of rapid and sustainable development in the new era.
