UEH Organizing the Workshop "Bridging Horizons: Empowering English Language Teaching and Learning" for teachers of High Schools in the Mekong Delta Region

On April 12 and April 13, 2024, UEH Vinh Long Campus coordinated with the Regional English Language Office - US Embassy in Vietnam to organize a workshop series at Vinh Long Campus for high-school teachers in the Mekong Delta Region with the topic: “Bridging Horizons: Empowering English Language Teaching and Learning”. This workshop series was a testament to the mission of UEH Vinh Long Campus in accommodating teachers with the latest teaching methods and resources, thereby inspiring and organizing teaching for pupils and students effectively.

Proudly to organize community activities associated with the Department of Education and Training of provinces, cities, and high schools, contributing to promoting the development orientation of general education in the period 2021 - 2030, UEH focuses on contributing solutions to improving the capacity of educational managers and teachers at high schools in terms of management capacity and ability to use information technology solutions in teaching and learning to promote student autonomy and dynamism in improving English proficiency.

Continuing the activities organized effectively in recent years, on April 12 - 13, 2024, UEH coordinated with the Regional English Langauge Office - US Embassy in Vietnam to organize a workshop series at Vinh Long Campus for Teachers of Dong Nai high schools in Mekong River Delta with the theme:  "Bridging Horizons: Empowering English Language Teaching and Learning". This workshop series was a testament to the mission of UEH University in accommodating teachers with the latest methods and teaching materials, thereby inspiring and organizing effective teaching for students.

At the opening of the Workshop, on behalf of UEH, there was the presence of Assoc. Prof. Bui Quang Hung - Deputy Director of UEH and Director of Vinh Long Campus; Mr. Bui My Ngoc - Deputy Head of UEH School of Foreign Languages; with the Board of Directors of Vinh Long Campus and lecturers of UEH. On the side of the Regional English Language Office - US Embassy in Vietnam, there were lecturers from the office: Ms. Camille Williams, Ms. Carla Bailey, Ms. Janine Walker, and Mr. Jon Nichols. On the side of the Department of Education and Training of Vinh Long Province, there was the attendance of Mr. Trinh Van Ngoan - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Vinh Long province, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Phong - Deputy Head of General and Continuing Education affiliated to the Department of Education and Training of Vinh Long Province, and more than 130 English teachers of high schools in the Mekong Delta Provinces and lecturers of Vinh Long Campus.

It enhances teaching quality, fosters innovation, and elevates student learning outcomes. This workshop series aligns perfectly with UEH University's mission to empower education with the latest methodologies and resources, motivating and ensuring effective education for the next generation.”

After the opening session, the Workshop moved to parallel discussion sessions with the topics: Increasing student Engagement; Teachers, get your students speaking inside and outside the classroom; Teaching students how to use AI appropriately.

At the discussion session on "Increasing student Engagement" chaired by Ms. Camille Williams, she and teachers explored innovative methods, from applying technology in teaching to designing interactive learning activities, aiming to create a more flexible and engaging learning environment.

At the same time, the discussion session on "Teachers, get your students speaking inside and outside the classroom" chaired by Ms. Carla Bailey brought a new breeze in applying advanced teaching methods, stimulating arousing interest in learning for students, thereby encouraging them to apply their acquired knowledge into practice, enhancing their learning experience and confidence in their communication abilities.

In parallel with the above two discussion sessions, Mr. Jon Nichols presented the topic: "Teaching students how to use AI appropriately" that helped lecturers and teachers open up new directions in improving teaching methods, moreover, students not only learn how to use new technology effectively but also develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills in the digital world.

The workshop " Bridging Horizons: Empowering English Language Teaching and Learning" marked an important step in improving the quality of English teaching and learning. This event was not only an opportunity for teachers to exchange experiences but also an opportunity for them to be accommodated with the latest knowledge and skills in the field of language education. Discussions and hands-on activities provided an in-depth look at modern teaching methods as well as how to create a positive learning environment and support students' comprehensive development to achieve increasing professional requirements.

Through the workshop, teachers and speakers at the Regional English Language Office - US Embassy in Vietnam experienced an inspiring and interesting journey. Exciting discussions and in-depth lectures have opened up new horizons in teaching and learning English for teachers in the new era. At the end of the program, the Organizing Committee conferred certificates to 176 students participating in the program.

With the mission of a national key university and the desire to accompany, share and contribute to sustainable development, UEH will continue to work with the Department of Education and Training of provinces/cities, and high schools in the next community projects for the development of a sustainable Mekong.
