On the afternoon of April 16, 2026, within the framework of their visit and academic exchange, the Delegation of the Australian Political Exchange Council held a working session at Campus A of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), opening up many prospects for cooperation in the time ahead.
Attending the meeting, representatives from UEH included: Assoc.Prof. Tran Ha Minh Quan - Rector, UEH Honours College; Assoc.Prof. Tran Phuong Thao - Vice Rector, UEH Honours College; Assoc.Prof. Pham Duong Phuong Thao - Deputy Head, Department of Research - Development and Global Engagement; Dr. Douglas Foster - Provost of Vietnam, Western Sydney University; Dr. Ho Hoang Anh - Director, Master of Health Economics and Management program.
From the Australian Political Exchange Council, participants included: Hon. Sook Yee Lai - MLA, Member for Bibra Lake Legislative Assembly, Parliament of Western Australia, Acting Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Western Australia; Hon. Emily Jane Suvaal - MLC, Member of the Legislative Council, Parliament of New South Wales; Ms. Clare Manton - Senior Advisor, Office of the Federal Minister for the Environment and Water; Mr. Sam Brennan - Policy Advisor, Office of Federal Senator David Shoebridge.

Overview of the Meeting
Promoting educational connectivity and academic exchange between Vietnam and Australia
Opening the discussion, Assoc.Prof. Tran Ha Minh Quan - Rector, UEH Honours College, delivered a welcome speech, expressing his deep respect for the visit of the Australian delegation and emphasizing the significance of promoting educational cooperation and academic exchange between the two countries in the context of increasingly profound international integration. He particularly affirmed the strategic and sustainable relationship between UEH and reputable educational institutions in Australia, such as Western Sydney University and CPA Australia, while acknowledging the great interest of UEH students in the training programs, professional certifications, and academic exchanges of Australia.
Through this sharing, UEH continues to demonstrate its multifaceted cooperation orientation, not only with universities but also extending to governmental and non-governmental organizations, educational associations, multinational research-consulting organizations, and professional associations, in a deep, broad, and multi-sectoral direction with global partners.

Subsequently, Hon. Sook Yee Lai - MLA, Member for Bibra Lake Legislative Assembly, Parliament of Western Australia, Acting Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Western Australia, shared the objectives and expectations of the visit, while expressing the desire to promote mutual understanding between the two education systems and economies through substantive exchange activities. She also stated that the delegation is particularly interested in gaining deeper insights into Vietnam's education, economy, and culture in order to identify suitable directions for cooperation, thereby contributing to the increasingly profound and broad bilateral relations.

Sharing perspectives on education, economy, and directions for sustainable development
During the professional exchange session, Dr. Ho Hoang Anh - Director, Master of Health Economics and Management program, presented an overview of Vietnam's economic and educational development before and after the “Đổi mới” (Reform) policy in 1986. The presentation highlighted the remarkable changes in the post - “Đổi mới” period, demonstrating increasingly clear investment in human capital development. The shared content provided the Australian delegation with additional perspectives on Vietnam's economic model and economic education system.

The subsequent open discussion was lively, covering many topics of mutual interest, such as UEH's Green University model, career trends and labor markets in Vietnam and Australia, as well as potential cooperation in cultural exchange. Notably, a prominent proposal was put forward to establish a cultural exchange program for Australian students, creating opportunities for learning Vietnamese and gaining a deeper understanding of Vietnamese culture and people. This is seen as a practical direction to enhance cultural exchange and strengthen friendly relations between the two countries.
The working session concluded in an open, positive, and hopeful atmosphere, opening up new directions for educational cooperation, cultural exchange, and academic connectivity between UEH and Australian partners in the coming time./.
