UEH Smart & Green Students in the 5.0 Era: Reducing Plastic by Using Electronic Student Cards

Instead of using physical student cards, the UEH Smart & Green student generation of University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City has prioritized switching to using electronic student cards, reducing plastic for the environment and leading change for sustainable development.
Using electronic student cards - Pioneering the spirit of new-generation UEH students
Since 2021, UEH has deployed the UEH Student Application on smart mobile phones (hereinafter App) integrating electronic student cards for learners to create a smart learning environment with many convenient and interesting experiences.
The electronic student card on the App has the same value as the current plastic student card. Learners can use the electronic student card in daily activities at UEH listed as checking attendance; using for Unipass Smart Bus Card; using photocopy and printing services; tracking academic work; tracking news and events at UEH; using for library and exams; tracking Union - Association activities; UEH WayFinding; scheduling consultation and support; and other utilities. All operations will be performed quickly on mobile phones to optimize learners’ time.
In particular, using electronic student cards, instead of physical plastic cards, is a practical action toward environmental protection. With each electronic card, UEH students have contributed to reducing 5g of plastic and carbon emissions (during the production process) into the environment.
With these practical values, electronic student cards have been responded to and prioritized by generations of UEH students in recent years, demonstrating the spirit of the new-generation UEH students of "Smart & Green" toward the environment and pioneering in leading change for the goal of sustainable development.

Instructions for activating the electronic student card
The UEH Student application is currently available on both the App Store and Google Play platforms. To activate the electronic student card, students can follow the following steps:
Step 1: Download the UEH Student App (available on Android and iOS platforms)
Step 2: Log in with a personal account provided by UEH (see account information in the Admission Receipt)

In addition to the features of a student card, the UEH Student App integrates diverse services and manages student activities and training activities throughout the student’s school time.
*Serving smart attendance checking
One of the biggest advantages of UEH Student is serving as smart attendance checking, optimizing time and eliminating fraud cases. Instead of spending time scanning plastic card barcodes and verifying the correct barcode, UEH students can now ‘check in’ quickly by scanning barcodes or QR codes displayed on classroom slides or posted in the activity area. Compared to the traditional plastic, student card method which takes 60 minutes to verify 1000 students, the UEH Student App only takes 30 seconds.
Serving as smart attendance checking
*Providing and storing information for students
UEH Student provides full news and important events of UEH to students and other important information listed as timetables, exam schedules, scores and so on to help them easily look up and grasp. UEH Union - Association activities will also be announced so that students do not miss out.
In addition, the UEH Wayfinding feature will help students quickly find their way to UEH locations and campuses listed as rooms, departments, libraries, classrooms, etc.
With UEH Student, students can completely master all schedules, learning results, and information about ongoing activities at UEH thanks to the App's reminder notifications.
Capturing all useful information
*Optimizing facility operations
Instead of spending time presenting student cards as before, now students only need to scan QR codes or Barcodes in a few seconds to be able to enter the library or enter UEH’s classrooms and meeting rooms through the application on the phone. The school has deployed the Smart Lock System (UEH Smart Lock) via the Internet Of Things application, the unlocking is decentralized, integrating the school's information system and Bluetooth waves.
In December 2020, UEH put into operation a photocopying and printing system using integrated staff and student cards for identification and operations. Currently, with this UEH Student App, students will no longer need to use cards and can even buy additional automatic usage packages. In addition, the App integrates other convenient features for users listed as ordering a washer and dryer at the dormitory.
In addition, UEH Student is gradually perfecting and developing more features in the future listed as integrating with digital banking to make payments for school services via the phone App, scanning QR codes, even being able to withdraw cash without using an ATM card.
Welcoming the new generation of full-time UEH students of Batch 50 to officially join the common house, UEH hopes that they will continue to maintain and promote the spirit of the new generation of UEH ‘Smart & Green’ students through practical actions for the environment, like using electronic student cards!
