UEH Supports Disadvantaged Students, Helping Them Realize Their Educational Dreams

05 Dec, 2023

In line with its commitment to sustainable development for future generations, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) is dedicated to providing equitable opportunities for all students, especially those facing financial challenges, so they can access knowledge and personal growth. Every year, UEH implements numerous meaningful programs to support these students with essential supplies, scholarships, and other aid.

Providing Essentials for Disadvantaged Students

Each Lunar New Year, UEH organizes initiatives to ease the financial burden on students with difficult circumstances, helping them enjoy a more fulfilling holiday season. Through the 15th "Spring Volunteer Campaign" in 2023, UEH provided food, (rice, cooking oil, dried foods, non-perishables, etc.), essential goods and Tet gifts to students, bringing not only material support but also moral encouragement to help them focus on their studies and enjoy a warm, meaningful spring.

In partnership with the Vietnam Oil Corporation (PVOil) and the Student Associations of various universities, UEH also organized the “2023 Reunion Bus Program - Together with PVoil to Return Home for Tết” for disadvantaged students, allowing them to celebrate the New Year with their families.

Not only that at the two UEH dormitories, students received daily necessities (such as sugar, fabric softener, MSG, milk cartons) and cash gifts valued at 5 million VND, along with Tet packages containing snacks, milk, and traditional red envelopes, totaling 1 million VND.

UEH’s commitment to student welfare extends beyond the Tet season, with continued care for each student throughout their academic journey and participation in UEH activities. During the 15th Volunteer Spring Campaign in 2023, the UEH Party Committee, Board of Trustees, Trade Union, and leadership across UEH's member schools, departments, and the Vinh Long Branch made visits to encourage and support student volunteers. Leaders visited various sites, checking in on the volunteers and the progress of activities, while delivering food, essential supplies, and small gifts to the teams. These gestures and words of encouragement provided the volunteers with renewed energy and strengthened their commitment to serve wholeheartedly in Mang Thit, Vinh Long.

Financial Support to Reduce the Burden on Disadvantaged Students

In 2023, UEH allocated over 10 billion VND to financially support students through scholarships and other financial aid programs, such as: Academic Support Scholarships, “Wings of Dreams” - Corporate Sponsorship Scholarship, Study Credit Programs and Loan Support Services, and other forms of support. Specifically, the university offered 1,097 study support scholarships worth nearly 7.5 billion VND across two registration periods in 2023. Under the "Nurturing Talent" category, the "Wings of Dreams" scholarship provided 2.5 billion VND in support to 238 students in need, empowering them to continue their educational journeys. The “Bright Future” scholarship was also awarded to five new first-year students from disadvantaged backgrounds who had persevered through hardships to start their university studies at UEH.

Additionally, in 2023, UEH extended financial support to 56 students in need by accommodating them in dormitories, providing subsidies or exemptions of 300,000 VND per month for students with special needs. UEH also subsidized the UEH Shuttle Bus service, allowing students to travel for just 5,000 VND per ride, with over 53,000 rides registered in 2023. As a leading university in Vietnam’s education system and increasingly recognized globally, UEH is committed to delivering high-quality education that empowers students to shape their futures, inspiring positive life changes, and promoting sustainability in environmental, social, and economic spheres.
