UEH Supports Local Climate Change Adaptation Efforts

In response to the mounting challenges posed by climate change, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) has been actively assisting local governments in establishing early warning systems and climate risk monitoring frameworks. As a leading research institution, UEH offers data and analytical models while working closely with local agencies to develop response plans and raise community awareness. These efforts aim to reduce potential damages, protect the environment, and strengthen local resilience against climate-related challenges.
UEH Collaborates in Khánh Hòa’s New Development Phase
On April 2, 2024, leaders from the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) attended the 2023 Khánh Hòa Province Investment Promotion and Planning Conference. During the event, UEH and the Khánh Hòa Provincial People’s Committee formalized a cooperation agreement for 2023-2028. This conference aimed to announce the official master plans approved for Khánh Hòa, highlight the province’s potential, and outline development strategies to attract investments and modern technology from both domestic and international sources.
Under this partnership, UEH will provide advisory and review support on urban development projects with a focus on smart, sustainable, and internationally connected planning. The university will also help drive economic restructuring, fostering a shift towards diversified, high-value growth supported by science, technology, and innovation. Key areas include advancing green and circular economy initiatives, efficient resource management, environmental protection, and building resilience against natural disasters and climate change..
UEH and Khanh Hoa Sign Memorandum of Understanding
In line with the cooperation agreement, on December 9, 2023, UEH and the Khánh Hòa Department of Science and Technology held the first scientific workshop in Nha Trang to discuss the proposal for a National Research Center for Ocean Technology. The workshop brought together experts who analyzed and provided theoretical, political, legal, and practical insights, drawing from both national and international experiences in ocean technology research. The discussions focused on defining the center’s vision, mission, core values, research priorities, financial mechanisms, and organizational structure. These insights will support UEH’s research team in finalizing a high-quality draft proposal, which is scheduled for submission to the Prime Minister by April 2024.

EEPSEA Highlights Comprehensive Carbon Transition at ADB Meeting
Four researchers from the Economy and Environment Partnership for Southeast Asia (EEPSEA) - UEH participated in a special session on "Comprehensive Carbon Transition in Asia: Greening Agriculture and Local Climate Governance" at the 56th Annual Meeting of the Asian Development Bank Board of Governors. Assoc.Prof. Pham Khanh Nam, Director of EEPSEA, moderated the session to promote dialogue and knowledge sharing among researchers, policymakers, and practitioners. He noted that comprehensive carbon transition is a significant challenge for Asia, as the region faces dual goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and ensuring social welfare. Discussions emphasized the importance of considering social and economic impacts on vulnerable communities and engaging local communities in designing and implementing climate policies.

EfD Vietnam Shares Green Growth Expertise with Đồng Nai Officials
Two researchers from the Environment for Development (EfD) and EEPSEA - UEH shared their expertise during a capacity-building workshop for local government officials in Dong Nai Province, one of Vietnam's leading industrial regions. The training program, organized by UEH, focused on strategies for green growth and sustainable development. The primary objective was to enhance leadership and management capabilities in planning and implementing sustainable development policies, particularly those emphasizing green growth, innovation, and digital transformation.

EfD Vietnam Leads Carbon Market Policy Research for Ho Chi Minh City
EfD Vietnam recently led a policy dialogue in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's largest economic hub, to examine the effects of a local carbon market. The research team collaborated with local stakeholders to prepare a policy report and hosted a policy dialogue to explore the implications of a carbon market for the city. The event, titled "Policy Dialogue on Carbon Markets: Impact Forecasts and Policy Directions for Ho Chi Minh City," gathered scholars, policymakers, and practitioners from local authorities, businesses, and international organizations in Southern Vietnam for in-depth discussions.

Green Growth Conference Promotes Sustainable Development in Vietnam
What is the environmental cost of Vietnam's economic growth, and what lies ahead? These questions were discussed at the Green Growth Workshop held in Ho Chi Minh City, co-organized by EfD Vietnam, the World Bank, and UEH. The workshop attracted over 50 participants both in-person and online, aiming to promote sustainable and climate-smart economic growth in Vietnam through knowledge sharing and collaboration. The two-day event featured in-depth discussions on key topics. The World Bank presented preliminary findings from ongoing green growth research, covering areas such as green economy, fiscal policies, and climate change adaptation and mitigation. EfD Vietnam experts also shared perspectives on governance, economic growth, renewable energy consumption, and marine spatial planning.

EfD Co-Hosts Workshop on Circular Economy Policies for Southern Vietnam
EfD Vietnam and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment co-hosted a workshop on circular economy practices for provincial officials. The workshop aimed to train local officials from various southern provinces in applying circular economy principles and implementing them locally. Sessions also helped participants analyze the current situation and readiness of circular economy activities in Vietnamese provinces, identify opportunities and challenges in implementing circular economy practices, and adopt best practices and recommendations for integration into local development plans.
