[UEH Through the Lenses of Time #04] Simple Frames: Keepsakes, Teachers, and Everyday Memories of Generations of UEHers

16 Aug, 2026

Looking toward the milestone of 50 years of establishment and development of UEH (1976–2026), "UEH 50 Years: Through the Lenses of Time" is a content series originating from the competition "UEH 50 Years - Frames of Knowledge - People - Future" and continuing to spread stories, images, memories, and memorable milestones about UEH. Each "frame" is a slice of time, preserving emotions, the journey of growth, and values cultivated across generations of UEHers, together contributing to portraying the 50-year picture of the University's establishment, development, and continuous innovation.

Not every frame needs a grand event to become memorable. Sometimes it is only an exercise book yellowed with age on a family bookshelf, a photograph of a teacher beside the lectern, a small, bustling market in the middle of the campus, or a gathering of retired teachers in front of a handsome new campus. In the fourth issue of the series, UEH Through the Lenses of Time brings four simple "frames" sent in by UEHers from different generations, yet all alike in one respect: their affection for the University is preserved in the simplest of things.

THE SIMPLE FRAMES OF GENERATIONS OF UEHERS

UEH 50 Years - Frames of Knowledge - People - Future

An exercise book from 2001 - A keepsake of two generations

Author: Ms. Phạm Mai Bảo Ngọc - UEH Mekong

"Exercises in Probability and Statistics", compiled by the Department of Mathematical Economics, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City and published in 2001 - a keepsake the author has kept on the family bookshelf. This is the book that the author’s uncle, a UEH student, once used during his years of study at the University.

An exercise book may seem the most ordinary of things, but kept for more than two decades it becomes a thread connecting two generations within one family - a place where knowledge from the UEH lecture hall is passed on as a cherished value.

A teacher beside the lectern - A photograph of Mr. Khảng, School of Mathematics - Statistics

Author: Mr. Hoàng Trung Nam - Alumnus of Cohort 15

A photograph of Mr. Khảng - School of Mathematics - Statistics, beside the lectern during a presentation on the topic "Applying sample survey methods in economic research".

The photograph has taken on the colours of time, but the teacher’s devoted posture beside the wooden lectern remains entirely intact. For an alumnus, this is not merely a record of a research presentation, but a frame capturing the image of the teacher - the source of so much knowledge and inspiration for generations of UEH students.

The Auction Floor and Second-hand Market - Student life in June 2006

Author: Ms. Trương Thị Thu Hương - Department of Quality Assurance and Internal Control

The "Auction Floor & Second-hand Market" event, supporting students’ studies and recreation, took place in June 2006 and was co-organised by the Student Support Centre, the Youth Union - Student Association and the School of Accounting and Auditing.

Twenty years ago, when student engagement activities were still organised in a simple way with banners, a projector and plain rows of tables and chairs, the spirit of "putting learners at the centre" was already present in the smallest activities of UEH life. This frame captures a lively rhythm of student life - something that continues today in hundreds of UEH community activities.

Retired teachers of the School of Mathematics - Statistics visit the new campus - A journey carried forward

Author: Mr. Nguyễn Thế Truyền - Retired staff member, School of Mathematics - Statistics

Retired teachers of the School of Mathematics - Statistics visit the new campus of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City together.

Closing these four frames is a deeply moving image: teachers who devoted their entire careers to the University, now standing side by side before the UEH emblem at a handsome, modern new campus. Their smiles in front of a university that keeps rising are the finest proof of continuity: the past does not stay behind, but always walks alongside UEH’s present and future.

UEH 50 Years: Through the Lenses of Time

Preserving the memories of generations of UEHers, creating a 50-year legacy

Looking ahead to the 50-year milestone (27 October 1976 - 27 October 2026), "UEH 50 Years - Frames of Knowledge - People - Future" is where half a century is retold through the memories of the UEHer community itself - through the stories, photographs, keepsakes and shared reflections that have accompanied so many generations, becoming pieces in the shared picture of UEH’s heritage.

Running alongside the series of 22 key activities aimed at repositioning and giving a new role to the 08 heritage values of UEH’s 50-year journey - "Solidarity - Compassion - Dedication - Community - Pioneering - Creation - Sustainability - Internationalisation" - “Through the Lenses of Time” helps to spread those values, connecting past, present and future through the experiences of the UEHer community across UEH’s 50 years of development.

Look forward to a special milestone:
