UEH welcomes Singapore Ambassador and the Consulate General of the Republic of Singapore in HCMC

On July 27, 2023, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) welcomed the Singapore Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Jaya Ratnam, and the Consul-General of the Republic of Singapore in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Roy Kho, in a momentous occasion for international relations and academic collaboration.

The meeting received Mr. Jaya Ratnam, Singapore Ambassador to Vietnam; Mr. Roy Kho, Consul-General of the Republic of Singapore in HCMC; as well as the attendance of UEH representatives, including: Prof. Su Dinh Thanh, President of UEH; Dr. Dinh Cong Khai, Vice President of UEH; Assoc.Prof. Bui Thanh Trang, Vice Rector of UEH College of Business; Assoc.Prof. Pham Khanh Nam, Vice Rector of UEH College of Economics, Law and Government; Assoc.Prof. Trinh Thuy Anh, Vice Rector of UEH College of Technology and Design; Mr. Khiet Vuong, Incubation Manager of UEH Institute of Innovation, and members of the Department of Research Management - International Cooperation (RMIC) of the university.

The meeting was a significant milestone in strengthening ties between the two nations, as well as fostering educational partnerships and cultural exchanges. High-ranking officials and representatives from both UEH and the Singaporean diplomatic offices were in attendance, showcasing the mutual commitment to exploring new avenues for cooperation and understanding.

The event commenced with warm greetings from the President of UEH, who expressed heartfelt gratitude for the presence of the distinguished guests and emphasized the significance of educational and cultural exchanges in fostering stronger ties between Vietnam and Singapore. The President highlighted UEH's dedication to academic excellence, research, and global engagement, in the context of an increasingly competitive digital world, through numerous successful cooperation with Singaporean institutions over the years.

The Singapore Ambassador, Mr. Jaya Ratnam, reciprocated the warm sentiments, acknowledging the longstanding relationship between Vietnam and Singapore and emphasizing the desire to further strengthen economic, educational, and cultural ties. He commended UEH's reputation as a leading institution of higher learning in Vietnam, which aligns well with Singapore's own commitment to educational excellence and innovation.

As the meeting unfolded, both parties engaged in a fruitful and dynamic discussion on various key topics, including:

  • Explore opportunities where UEH could fulfill the rising demands for digital talent from Singapore
  • Private sector/industry connections for internship and future job market in key areas and emerging fields such as AI, Big Data, Smart City, IoT, and digital transformation, etc.
  • Foster entrepreneurial collaboration and innovative initiatives between the two countries, scaling out innovation /entrepreneurship ecosystem
  • Sustainability agenda, ie: develop academic programs on carbon market / exchange on digital platform
  • Support digital transformation and technology adoption for Vietnamese universities

To mark the special occasion, UEH presented the Singapore Ambassador and the Consul-General with a unique and thoughtful gift. Handcrafted by UEH students, courtesy of the School of Media Design, the gift exemplified the university's dedication to promoting artistry and creativity among its students.

Additionally, UEH also conveyed its appreciation to Dr. Lesly Goh, Fulbright Specialist/Senior Fellow in Academia, Former Chief Technology Officer of the World Bank Group, for her dedication and support in fostering connections and promoting knowledge exchange with various entities and organizations both in Vietnam and abroad.

The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of camaraderie and shared vision for a stronger partnership between UEH and Singapore. The event underscored the importance of fostering cross-cultural understanding, education, and research collaborations to create a more interconnected and prosperous future for both nations.
