On the afternoon of April 17, 2025, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) had the honor of welcoming the delegation led by the Vice Minister of Higher Education of Cuba for a visit and working session, aiming to exchange opportunities for cooperation in training, research, and student exchange programs.
UEH welcomes the Cuban Vice Minister of Higher Education delegation
The delegation included Mr. Reynaldo Velasquez Zaldivar – Vice Minister of Higher Education of Cuba; Ms. Ariadne Feo Labrada – Consul General of Cuba in Ho Chi Minh City; Ms. Iliana Martínez González – Director of the Department of International Cooperation of Cuba; and Mr. Trần Thanh Duy – Secretary to the Consul General.
On behalf of UEH, the welcoming party consisted of Prof. Su Dinh Thanh – President of UEH; Prof. Nguyen Khac Quoc Bao – Vice President of UEH; Assoc.Prof. Bui Thanh Trang – Acting Rector of UEH College of Business; Assoc.Prof. Pham Khanh Nam – Rector of UEH College of Economics, Law and Government; Assoc.Prof. Trinh Thuy Anh – Vice Rector of UEH College of Technology and Design; Dr. Dinh Thi Thu Hong – Standing Deputy Head of the Department of Academic Affairs; Mr. Nguyen Van Duong – Standing Deputy Head of the Department of Student Affairs; and Assoc.Prof. Pham Duong Phuong Thao – Deputy Head of the Department of Research – Development and Global Engagement, along with UEH faculty members and students.
Expressing his delight at the visit of the Cuban delegation, Prof. Su Dinh Thanh shared: “This is not only an opportunity to strengthen the long-standing friendship between Vietnam and Cuba but also a valuable occasion to foster concrete initiatives in higher education cooperation. We also express our deep appreciation for the efforts and achievements of the Cuban education system, especially the long-term investment in human resources, language development, and academic culture – essential foundations for sustainable collaboration between universities. In that spirit, UEH wishes to expand cooperation with Cuban universities and believes that, with your companionship and the proactive spirit from both sides, the relationship between UEH and Cuban universities will continue to develop effectively, making practical contributions to the educational collaboration between the two countries.”

Mr. Reynaldo Velasquez Zaldivar – Vice Minister of Higher Education of Cuba – shared: “We always place great importance on promoting international cooperation in higher education, especially with countries that hold great development potential like Vietnam. The connection between universities not only creates opportunities for students and faculty to study and research but also enhances friendship and mutual understanding between our two nations. I believe that with the openness, professionalism, and enthusiasm of the UEH leadership and academic teams, together with the solid foundation of our countries’ friendship, we can establish long-term, meaningful collaborative programs that generate practical value and help spread knowledge for the shared development of our education systems.”

During the meeting, UEH and the Vice Minister engaged in discussions expressing mutual interest in further developing cooperation in various areas including academic research, teaching, and international exchange programs. Notably, Vice Minister Reynaldo Velasquez Zaldivar emphasized the importance of Cuba’s scholarship policies, including undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships, as a practical tool to promote educational cooperation with Vietnam in general and UEH in particular. He affirmed that Cuba is ready to create favorable conditions for UEH students to access high-quality training programs in Cuba and expressed hope to continue welcoming Cuban students to study and research at UEH in the near future.
