An activity series towards the 15th Congress of the Party Committee of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, term 2025-2030
15 years of continuous transformation, from the desire for integration to shaping their own identity in educational philosophy - Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics (UEH) has been writing a long-term training journey - from "Global" to "Glo-cal". Gradually forming generations of global citizens - local actions: understanding the world, empathizing with the community, being ready to serve sustainable development at both national and global levels. This is not only a training strategy but also a journey to affirm the mission of a pioneering university in the knowledge era.
Towards the 15th UEH Party Congress, UEH has been carrying out a comprehensive review of their development journey during the 2011-2025 period — a special milestone that clearly demonstrates the breakthrough thinking in UEH's development orientation with 5 strategic pillars: Training, Research, Administration, Operation, and Community.
This is not only an opportunity to summarize the achievements and lessons learned after 15 years of strong transformation but also an opportunity to more clearly affirm the strategic vision that has been consistently pursued and the long-term preparation for the next stage of development.
The period 2011-2020 marked an important milestone in UEH's development journey with the strategy of "Comprehensive autonomy & Internationalization". Accordingly, the training strategy officially shifted from focusing on training human resources associated with the construction, development, and innovation of the country in the previous stages to "Training international standard human resources".
UEH has proactively built a systematic training program assessment process. Thanks to that, quality standards are ensured in the process of opening new programs and majors responding to market demand. During this period, the University officially applied the outcome standard system that linked theory and training roadmap with practice as a consistent academic commitment. On that foundation, high-quality programs in English and Vietnamese from undergraduate to doctoral levels are implemented synchronously, gradually raising training standards.
In 2014, the “International Advanced Program” was launched, initiating the strategy of integrating “international standards & elements” into the training program – a solid step towards unbounded learning.
In 2016, the first UEH student groups participating in short-term study abroad marked a milestone for international exchange activities, expanding the global learning journey for students.
The 2017-2020 period continued to witness a marked improvement as UEH updated their programs according to international standards while developing program directors, a core factor in modern academic administration.
Since 2020, UEH has initially implemented training and research in the direction of integrating technology, creating a foundation for digital transformation in higher education. Also in this year, UEH Campus in Vinh Long (UEH Mekong) officially enrolled their first full-time undergraduate course: not only expanding the training space but also spreading the mission of education and innovation to the Mekong Delta.
The “Comprehensive Autonomy & Internationalization” phase is not only a turning point in innovation in training and management thinking but also a strategic launch pad for UEH to firmly enter the era of multi-disciplinar university - innovation - sustainability in the next phase. These pioneering steps continue to affirm UEH's role as a companion with Ho Chi Minh City, in particular, and the whole country in general, in the journey to reach international standards.

After a decade of persistent autonomy and internationalization strategy, UEH has entered a period of strong transformation, pioneering the creation of a multidisciplinary university model, innovation, and sustainable development. In the context of global higher education being deeply affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, technological shifts, and increasing demands of the knowledge society, UEH not only adapts but proactively leads the change.
This is the pivotal stage of transformation into a multidisciplinary University, marking a series of strategic movements in UEH's training. Many programs are developed into independent majors, creating conditions to promote in-depth and interdisciplinary expertise. A series of new programs are launched, strongly bringing UEH into the academic space of future fields, including Architecture and Smart Urban Design, Technology Management and Innovation, Digital Media and Multimedia Design, clearly demonstrating the expansion orientation to the economic - technological - creative axes.
In the following years, UEH will strongly expand new interdisciplinary programs, from Financial Technology (Fintech), Marketing Technology (Martech), Digital Business, Digital Media, to Robots & AI, Logtech, Information Security, ArtTech; dual degree programs, international bachelor's degrees, ASEAN Co-op bachelor's programs, English-language Master's programs that integrate professional knowledge, technological skills and social responsibility.
English-taught programs are expanded with full or partial training, along with integrated international certificate programs and cross-national training cooperation, contributing to bringing learners closer to global standards.
In particular, UEH continues to promote their role in creating a lifelong learning journey by implementing many short-term training programs for public sector officials, business leaders, and courses specifically designed for businesses according to practical needs.
From Ho Chi Minh City to Vinh Long Campus, programs listed as Mekong International Bachelor, Inter-school Summer Camp, and rotating campus have formed a connected academic space, where knowledge, culture, and action meet.
The 2021-2025 period is a time of strategic and courageous decisions, where UEH transforms to adapt, to lead, and to lay a solid foundation for a new university model, being ready to embark on the journey of sustainable development of the future.
With all the efforts and achievements, UEH officially chose Global Education to become a differentiated educational orientation, focusing on learners and making efforts to teach and convey global knowledge (Global) in connection with local context and market practices (Local). This is a complete step to open the era of "Training global citizens - sustainable action" 2025-2030.
Following the strategic transformation steps, the period 2025-2030 will be the time when UEH enters the acceleration phase with a clear orientation: training global citizens with integrated thinking - connecting academic knowledge, modern technology, and commitment to sustainable development.
This is a period where each innovation in education not only aims to adapt to the changes of the time but also carries the mission of creating the future - a future based on a sustainable training foundation that has been firmly shaped in the period 2021-2025.
The 2023-2025 period is an academic manifesto for a “learning by doing” university: acting for sustainability, to train citizens who are not only globally integrated, but also capable of changing reality - locally, in the community, and for the future.
These strategic innovations not only affirm the commitment to training associated with social responsibility and sustainable development but also an effort to maintain the position of Top 136 Best Universities in Asia (THE) and continue to reach new heights. This is the 5 years of solid foundation, paving the way for the next 50 years - the journey of brilliant development of UEH in the role of a pioneering and influential university.
