Ensuring that learning outcomes for a foreign language are as good as possible begins with identifying the precise skills that need to be improved. The four main language skills—speaking, listening, reading, and writing—all have a significant impact on efficient communication. From there, you can give each skill a specific, achievable goal. Not only will this help you focus on your weak areas, but it will also motivate you to make quick and effective progress in your language learning. So how can we maximize the learning process's effectiveness by establishing clear goals for every skill?
On July 26, 2024, the Department of Student Affairs (DSA) and the School of Foreign Languages (SFL) collaborated to host a language discussion with Mr. Charly Julajuj on the topic of "Identify your objectives" on the Microsoft Teams platform.
Mr. Charly Julajuj guided and placed a strong emphasis on determining and outlining individual language learning and usage goals. He has integrated learning techniques like careful planning and language practice in real-world settings with goal-setting. He also gave a summary of helpful websites for enhancing speaking, listening, reading, and writing abilities in language. By utilizing these platforms, students can quickly determine what skills they need to work on and enhance them, increasing their learning effectiveness and making noticeable progress in their English language learning.
Throughout the program, Mr. Charly Julajuj presents a number of strategies for enhancing language proficiency, including the use of stories and books to pick up vocabulary and grammatical structures. It is recommended that you read the entire text before looking up challenging words, and that you maintain a vocabulary book for recording and review purposes. Suggest playing word games and learning how to correctly and contextually use vocabulary in sentences at the same time. In order to check and correct your pronunciation, he also suggests recording your speech and practicing communication with friends or in front of a mirror.
As part of the English Zone - UEH English Zone project, language workshops are a regular monthly event. DSA and SFL will continue to connect UEH students with a variety of language specialists in the near future, offering the opportunity to be inspired to pursue language studies, and hone their language abilities to support their career and passions.
