Workshop: “Khanh Hoi Port Renovation Project: Factors for Success”

On September 18, 2024, the workshop “Khanh Hoi Port Renovation Project: Factors for Success” was jointly organized by the Institute of Smart Cities and Management (ISCM) of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), ADEME organization under the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Regional Integration (France) and Terao Asia Company (Singapore) at UEH campus B.

The Khanh Hoi Port Renovation Project is an activity to meet the needs and the development orientation of the city, environment, trade, tourism heritage and port. This is also one of the six objectives within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Department of Planning and Architecture Ho Chi Minh City and ADEME. Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee committed to redeveloping Khanh Hoi Port as part of the strategic development plans of the Saigon River corridor.

Overview of the workshop

Attending the workshop, on behalf of UEH, were Dr. Dinh Cong Khai - Vice President of UEH. In addition, there was the participation of Ms. Emmanuelle Pavillon-Grosser - Consulate General of France in Ho Chi Minh City; Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Head of General Planning Management Department, representative of the Department of Planning and Architecture Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Tran Ngoc Thach - Deputy General Director of Saigon Port Joint Stock Company; public Departments of Ho Chi Minh City; Universities and private companies in Vietnam.

In his opening speech, Dr. Dinh Cong Khai - Vice President of UEH - remarked: “As one of the leading prestigious universities in Vietnam, UEH clearly understands its role in the journey of developing comprehensive education and research for the community to join hands to solve local and regional challenges, contributing to creating positive impacts on society. Together with ADEME under the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Regional Integration (France) and Terao Asia Company (Singapore), UEH hopes to find the most effective planning solutions to maximize the potential for tourism, trade, and new services at Khanh Hoi port while still ensuring sustainable development and environmental protection."

On behalf of the French Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Emmanuelle Pavillon-Grosser presented the role of France in the design and construction of the old Saigon port and is willing to sponsor this to help Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee promote the development of historical, cultural and ecological values ​​of Khanh Hoi port. In addition, the French Government will support Ho Chi Minh City in creating unique urban features and economic growth potential for the city in general and Khanh Hoi port in particular.

Mr. Le Huu Luan - Former Director of Ho Chi Minh City Theater - emphasizing the importance of developing cultural centers in Khanh Hoi port area to introduce the history and to preserve Vietnam's cultural heritage

The workshop was greatly successful, serving as a forum for experts and scientists to share, to discuss and to evaluate factors related to port development through presenting and analyzing factors on infrastructure, environment, socio-economics, finance, and policies on the planning and development of the port area.
