Workshop on the Development Strategies of School of Media - Design and the Digital Media and Multimedia Design Training Program

Following the activity series after the launching ceremony of School of Media - Design (SMD), on the morning of May 13th, 2022, at the Auditorium B1.205, the workshop “Workshop on the Development Strategies of School of Media - Design and the Digital Media and Multimedia Design Training Program” took place. This event was to promote the roles of UEH in bringing to students qualified, practical, and internationally integrated study programs, simultaneously, to refer to the contributions of corporates and companies to design and develop the curricula of the bachelor’s program in Digital Media and Multimedia Design.

Attending the workshop, in terms of UEH, was Dr. Bui Quang Hung - Vice President of UEH who is in charge of UEH College of Technology and Design (CTD-UEH), Assoc. Prof. Dr.Nguyen Khac Quoc Bao - Deputy Head of CTD-UEH, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trinh Thuy Anh - Dean of School of Media - Design, Dr. Yi Dong Su - Deputy Head of SMD, and lecturers of Schools and Institutes of CTD-UEH.

On the side of the strategic partner, there were Ms. Vo Pham Que My - Director of External Affairs of MMA Global Vietnam, Mr. Nguyen Khoa My - President of Vietnam Public Relations (VNPR), Mr. Doanh Lien - Deputy Director of IVN Institute Vietnam, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Television - VNTV, Ms. Le Thi Mai Anh - Deputy Director of Global Pr Hub Joint Stock Company, Ms. Pham Thi Lan Khanh - Director of FLAMINGO Digital Media Joint Stock Company, Mr. Truong Hoang Tho - Director of ALIPO CREATIVE Joint Stock Company, Mr. Dang Nhu Khanh Hoang - Director of Hoang My Thien Entertainment Company Limited, Ms. Vu Thanh Truc - Content Director of Vu Branding CO.,LTD, and Mr. Tran Thai Son - Deputy Director of Mai Linh Technology Solution Company Limited.

The overview of the workshop

Delivering the opening speech at the workshop, Dr. Bui Quang Hung - Vice President of UEH shared: “University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City is a national key public university highly reputable in the fields of economics and management. In 2021, UEH officially restructured to form a multidisciplinary university aiming to be a sustainable university. This multidisciplinary university has 03 member colleges and Vinh Long Campus in which UEH College of Technology and Design (CTD) was considered a breakthrough in using opportunities to approach the latest information in the field of technology and design - a very necessary matter in our current life. CTD has the following schools: School of Economic Mathematics - Statistics, School of Business Information Technology, UEH Institute of Innovation (UII), Institute of Smart City and Management, Financial Institute of Intelligent and Interactive Technologies, and the 6^th unit is the School of Media - Design recently launched on May 12 whose first product is the Bachelor’s program named Digital Media and Multimedia Design enrolling this year and attracting a number of applications. In addition to that, the event that Dr. Park Young June - Former Deputy Minister of Knowledge Economy South Korea - became the Honorary Principal of CTD will open many activities and support the development of the field of design and media due to the rapid growth of South Korea in this field. Promoting the spirit of UEH, CTD is always open-minded and accepts new perspectives on “đi tắt đón đầu” (take a shortcut) because technology and design have been developing for many years and remaining changing and innovating regularly, therefore, UEh aims to have a training product responding to the current demands of the market. We always have a courageous mechanism for competent teams to attend teaching, especially a hope to the participation of partners and corporates to make the training program of UEH realistic, helping graduated students complete well their jobs.”

UEH, in general, and CTD - SMD in particular, usually appreciate the cooperative relationships with corporates that make education approach practicability, simultaneously, connect those firms to high caliber human resources. At the workshop, the leaders of CTD - UEH officially signed the Memorandum of Understanding MOU with strategic partners as follows: MMA Global, Vietnam Public Relations (VNPR), FLAMINGO Digital Media Joint Stock Company, ALIPO CREATIVE Joint Stock Company, Hoang My Thien Entertainment Company Limited, Vu Branding CO.,LTD, Vietnam Television, IVN Institute Vietnam, Global Pr Hub Joint Stock Company, Mai Linh Technology Solution Company Limited. In accordance with that CTD - UEH and units signed cooperation agreements with each other on the following contents:

Training, fostering and developing human resources: Building and implementing training programs in the field of Digital Media and Multimedia Design, start-up projects at UEH, deploying activities and events encouraging Marketing, media, and event practice competence, inviting experts from companies attending training and applied research activities, receiving UEH lecturers and students to work and intern at branches and departments of the firms, and so on.
Scientific Research and Consultancy: Collaborating and exchanging the results of research to facilitate the two sides with the applications of research findings in teaching research, manufacturing, and business, conducting community, socially creative, and academic projects based on the capacities and demands of both sides.

Within the framework of the company, Assoc. Prof. Trinh Thuy Anh - Dean at School of Media - Design shared the development strategies of the School with the vision of “Becoming a leading media design training and project developing center in Vietnam” with the core values: Creative - Artistically inspirational - Integrated - Sustainable. In 2022, SMD officially calls for applications to the bachelor’s program in Digital Media and Multimedia Design. This is a truly new major less common among Vietnamese University admissions. The outstanding point of this program was built from the Top 15 leading programs around the globe in the field of digital media and multimedia design with the supervision of the top leading domestic and international expert team, 40% of the subjects included realistic experience projects/ activities, 40% of the lecturer team from firms and organizations operating in the field of media and design.

The workshop received lots of concerns and contributions of realistic ideas from the specialists, partners, and corporates in developing the training program. Hopefully, new cooperation opportunities and the contributions of the partners will help SMD, particularly, and UEH, generally, more and more perfect in their operations and developing orientation and bring training products responding to the demands of the market.
