On October 27, 2025, the UEH community collectively experienced a memorable milestone—the 49th anniversary of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City's establishment, coupled with the leadership transition for the 2025 - 2030 term. After nearly half a century of perseverance on its journey of knowledge creation, UEH today is poised to approach its 50th milestone with new aspirations and vision!

The 49th Anniversary Celebration of UEH was solemnly held in Hall A.116, with the participation of university leaders, esteemed faculty members, and UEH staff.

A 49-Year Journey of Unity, Camaraderie, Pioneering, and Innovation

In 1976, at a time when the nation had just been reunified, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) was officially established, driven by the aspiration to train an economic workforce to serve the country's reconstruction.

Forty-nine years—a journey of nearly half a century fueled by intergenerational effort and inner strength—has transformed UEH from a single-discipline institution into a pioneering, multidisciplinary, and sustainable university, affirming its regional prestige and reaching for global recognition.

Delivering a congratulatory speech to mark UEH's 49th anniversary, Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh – President of UEH for the 2020 - 2025 term, evoked pride in the university's 49-year journey of development. He also honored the spirit of perseverance, the aspiration to serve, and the dedication to society that the UEHer community has continuously preserved and spread to this day.

“For the past 49 years, UEH has relentlessly innovated and integrated. But one thing has remained unchanged—the ONE UEH spirit of unity and pioneering: daring to think, daring to innovate, and daring to take responsibility.

It is the spirit of dedicated faculty who have sowed the seeds of knowledge, constantly creating and researching, contributing to shaping national economic policies and strategies, and strengthening UEH's academic reputation regionally and globally.

It is the aspiration of generations of UEH faculty and staff—always dynamic, creative, globally integrated, and dedicated to society.

It is the pride of over 280,000 UEH alumni—working across the public sector, corporations, innovative startups, and international organizations.

It is the bond of the UEHers community—individuals who share common values: unity, responsibility, creativity, pioneering, and sustainability,” he shared.

A New Generation of Leaders to Write UEH's Future

Forty-nine years of dedicated development and the inner strength of previous generations have laid a solid foundation for UEH to step into a new era with great aspirations and a grand vision: to maintain its position in the Top 250 Asian Universities by 2030 and the Top 100 by 2045.

To realize this vision, UEH has officially Announced and Presented the Appointment Decisions for UEH Management Positions for the 2025 - 2030 term—a team that will play a crucial role in leading UEH into its next phase.

Representing the new generation of leaders, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Quang Hung - UEH Executive Vice President, congratulated the faculty and staff newly appointed to leadership positions across UEH's departments and units. He also reaffirmed the new leadership team's spirit of continuity, inheritance, and aspiration for sustainable development.

“The 2020–2025 term has left many significant marks, affirming the strong capabilities and inner strength of the UEHer community. Today's appointment and selection of personnel are not merely a succession but a continuation of UEH's proud values—a place where each individual shares responsibility, with clear roles, tasks, and processes; and acts based on a spirit of responsibility, results, and feasibility,” emphasized Dr. Hung.

Furthermore, he emphasized that UEH will continue its strong transformation from a management mindset to a governance mindset, promoting collective strength, and preserving and spreading positive values for future generations. The University will also implement a synchronized work management system, review training processes through nine key strategic projects, and prepare for the 2025 year-end review, leading up to the 50th-anniversary celebration.

Toward the 50th Milestone and Beyond

At this historic moment for UEH, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong—who has dedicatedly guided UEH's development for over 45 years through his studies, teaching, research, and leadership; serving two terms as President, three terms as Party Secretary, and as Chairman of the UEH Council during the 2020-2025 restructuring period into a multidisciplinary and sustainable university; and Head of the Steering Committee for the 50th-anniversary celebration—shared important remarks and directives:

“The 50th-anniversary celebration of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City is an event of special significance, marking half a century of UEH’s establishment, development, and contributions to education, scientific research, and national service. The purpose of the commemorative activities is not only to honor the University's outstanding achievements over the past fifty years but also to affirm UEH's regional and international standing, inspire pride and unity among all UEHers, and align our community towards the strategic goals for the 2025–2030 period, with a vision toward 2045.

Based on eight core values: Unity – Camaraderie – Dedication – Community – Pioneering – Creation – Sustainability – Internationalization, the University will launch a series of special activities leading up to the 50th anniversary. These will focus on key tasks: enhancing teaching quality, advancing scientific research, and actively participating in cultural, sports, and community activities, all to spread the humane, dynamic, and integrated spirit of UEH,” Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong emphasized.

The past 49 years have built a strong foundation of inner strength, and together with the ONE UEH cultural compass, the UEHer community will serve as the driving force for UEH to continue asserting its position as a leading multidisciplinary and sustainable university in Asia, while spreading its values globally.
