Conference of representatives of UEH officials and employees: Promoting the achievements in 2020, striving to accomplish targets in 2021.

On the morning of January 14, 2021, at Room A.103, Facility A (59C Nguyen Dinh Chieu, Vo Thi Sau Ward, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City), University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) solemnly organized the Conference of UEH Officials and Employees in 2021.

Attending the Conference were Prof.Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong – President of UEH Council, Prof.Dr. Su Dinh Thanh – President of UEH, Prof.Dr. Nguyen Trong Hoai - Vice President of UEH, Dr. Bui Quang Hung - Vice President of UEH, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Phan Thi Bich Nguyet - Chairwoman of Advisory Council, Dr. Bui Quang Viet – Chairman of UEH Labor Union and representatives of officials, employees of the campuses and facilities.

Overview of the Conference

Speaking at the Conference, Prof.Dr. Su Dinh Thanh – President of UEH, evaluated the university performance in 2020 on enrollment and training; scientific research and international cooperation; university ranking achievement; organizational structure and human resource; financial management, and facilities.

Though in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, UEH managed to meet its enrollment targets regarding enrollment and training. The promotion of admission consultation and communication activities positively contributed to the enrollment results of 2020.

In terms of scientific research and international cooperation, 2020 marked a leap in the university's scientific research achievements with 380 articles in prestigious international journals (204 ISI articles, 359 Scopus ones) and 271 articles in domestic magazines. According to a statistic by the Ministry of Education and Training in 2020, UEH was in the top 5 universities in Vietnam announced in prestigious international journals in ISI, SCI, and SCIE (up to five places compared to 2019). As for the acceptance of scientific research projects at all levels, there are 01 state level, 17 of ministerial and equivalent level, 36 of university level, and 142 by students. Moreover, UEH held 06 international seminars, ten domestic workshops, welcomed 07 international delegations, signed 03 MOUs, took in 91 international students, sent out 04 UEH students for international exchange, cooperated research with 62 foreign scientists (Research fellowship).

Regarding university ranking, UEH significantly improved its international university ranking. It is the first and only university in the economy field in Vietnam to be listed in the QS Asia Ranking 2021 (601+); appeared in the world’s top 25 best universities in contributing to lifelong career development according to U-Multirank Ranking; ranked at No.11 out of 176 universities in Vietnam according to Webometrics Ranking.

As for organizational structure and human resources, UEH completed the organizational structure for the term 2020-2025 of the Party Committee, University Council, Board of Director, campuses, and affiliates. The Vinh Long Branch has quickly gone into stable operation. UEH has restructured its organization, notably renaming and establishing 03 important departments: Department of Marketing - Communication, Department of Student Affairs, Department of Human Resource.

Regarding the management of finance and facilities, UEH has improved the quality of revenue and expenditure planning, contributing to strict cash flow management and meeting time requirements for financial resources. The most significant facilities are completing the B1 Building, renovating lecture halls at B2 Building at Campus 279 Nguyen Tri Phuong; finishing phase 1 of building UEH Campus - Nguyen Van Linh and beginning to use since January 2021; upgrading UEH Guest House to UEH 3-star Hotel Boutique.

To promote the achievements of 2020, the Professor President has proposed eight solutions to successfully implement the operating direction in 2021, including (1) continue to review and update the training program, develop multi-disciplinary training programs and increase the application of information technology in teaching; (2) promote the internationalization of training and scientific research; (3) enhance academic reputation; (4) strengthen internal quality assurance; (5) invest in digital infrastructure development; (6) diversify cooperation models between UEH and partners; (7) develop and improve the quality of human resources; (8) diversify revenue sources and develop sustainable finance. In particular, to motivate individuals and groups' adequate performance, UEH will innovate the method of evaluating units and individuals based on KPI in 2021.

To sum up the Conference, Prof.Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong – President of University Council, shared his happiness, pride, and confidence in the development of UEH with brilliant achievements in 2020, such as: Achieving enrollment quota, the highest number of international publications on prestigious magazines over the past 45 years, no more lack of facilities, ensuring the life of lecturers and employees despite the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, basically completing the university’s organizational structure; and the special event that UEH entered the Top 601+ in the QS Asian Ranking. The UEH Council President expressed his gratitude to UEH's collective and individual efforts and dedication over the past year.

Prof.Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong suggested that lecturers and officials join hands to effectively implement 06 essential contents of 2021 on enrollment and training; scientific research and international cooperation; university ranking achievement; organizational structure and human resource; financial management and facilities. With the utmost efforts of the university, the companionship of the partners, the high promotion of the intellectual strength, solidarity, and collective action determination of nearly 1,000 officers and employees, UEH will surely achieve its strategic goal.

Additionally, the Conference elected the People's Inspectorate Board for 2021 - 2023, consisting of 07 members.

The Conference took place in an atmosphere of excitement with high determination from all participating delegates and officials, affirming that UEH is a leading prestigious university in high-quality training on economics science, business, management, and laws in Vietnam, striving towards international quality standards.
