With fall coming to an end, student energy levels are higher than ever thanks to events that welcome new students. In keeping with that spirit, UEH English Zone has planned a number of interesting activities that have drawn a wide range of students from various majors and faculties. Therefore, UEH English Zone has emerged as the go-to place for people who want to get better at English.
EZ Board game sessions have become one of the most popular and beloved activities this month. Through games such as Avalon, Exploding Kittens, Coup, The Resistance, Taco, and Uno, students not only had the chance to relax after long hours of studying but also improved their English communication skills. Games like Avalon and The Resistance requiring analysis, strategy, and persuasion, help players practice debating and presenting in English. Meanwhile, Exploding Kittens, with its simple but surprising gameplay, created a lively atmosphere, allowing participants to easily strike up conversations and expand their daily life vocabulary. Uno and Taco, with their mix of quick thinking and fun challenges, brought bursts of laughter and helped foster connections through joyful and friendly moments.
More notably, September 2024 marked the expansion of UEH English Zone to the UEH Nguyễn Văn Linh campus, starting with EZ Talk & Boardame activities. By organizing events at different campuses, UEH English Zone ensures that students from all campuses can participate, interact, and practice their English skills, thereby fostering inclusion across the university. These activities not only enhance students' communication abilities but also create a dynamic and supportive community for those looking to improve their English at UEH.
In addition to board games, UEH English Zone hosted EZ Talks, encouraging participation and sharing among all attendees. This month, the EZ Talks sessions focused on three main topics: adventures, childhood memories, and the Mid-Autumn Festival. EZ Talks provided an opportunity for students to share their personal explorations and perspectives on the world.
Moreover, the DIY lantern decoration activities not only gave participants a space for creativity but also expanded their vocabulary related to the Mid-Autumn Festival. Students were encouraged to discuss their decorating ideas, describe the process, and share their childhood memories of Mid-Autumn—all in English. This combination of learning and creativity left a lasting impression, boosting participants' confidence in their English communication skills.
Furthermore, English Zone organized four English club activities, ranging from movie watching and reading to everyday activities, in partnership with the BELL English Club and the School of Foreign Language. Students had the opportunity to share special childhood experiences, ranging from family get-togethers and traditional games to homemade meals and festivities during the Mid-Autumn Festival. In addition to reliving their favorite moments, telling these stories in English helped them improve their language abilities, especially when it came to daily experiences.
As a colorful and energetic month draws to a close, UEH English Zone has shown to be a valuable resource for UEHers looking to build community as well as improve their English language skills. October promises to bring even more exciting events and learning opportunities with a wide range of beneficial and engaging activities.
