International Workshop “From Idea to Impact: Empowering Female Researchers for Grant Writing Success”

On August 3, 2025, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) successfully concluded the five-day International Workshop “From Idea to Impact: Empowering Female Researchers for Grant Writing Success”. Co-organized by UEH, Economics for Development (EfD) Vietnam, and the Women in Environmental Economics for Development (WinEED) program under the EfD Global Hub, this workshop witnessed the participation of 4 distinguished guest experts, who are esteemed experts from EfD Women in Environmental Economics for Development (WinEED), and 18 early- and mid-career female researchers in Environmental Economics, Sustainable Development and related fields. Its primary objective is to enhance the research capabilities and international publication potential of UEH female researchers, lectures and PhD. students.

At the opening ceremony, Prof.Dr. Sử Đình Thành - UEH President, delivered an inspiring remarks emphasizing the university’s commitment to fostering gender equality within the realm of scientific research and promoting inclusive academic excellence. This international workshop marks a significant advance in that direction, empowering every individual to reach their full potential in acamedia.

Assoc. Prof. Pham Khanh Nam, Rector of the UEH College of Economics, Law and Government, Senior Research Fellow and Dean of EfD–Vietnam, who has served as the pivotal bridge linking UEH with the EfD network, highlighted the significance of the workshop in fostering collaborative, high‑impact research. In his remarks, he underscored UEH’s strategic commitment to investing in high‑quality research proposals capable of attracting international funding. Through such initiatives, UEH not only empowers its researchers - especially female scholars - to compete globally, but also strengthens our role as a leading regional partner in advancing environmental economics and sustainable policy innovation.

From EfD Global Hub, Prof. Pamela Jagger, Professor of Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan expressed her eagerness to contribute her expertise to this mission and conveyed the hope that the program would inspire participants, foster meaningful collaborations, and achieve lasting success.

The workshop featured an innovative mentoring model, with our esteemed guest experts providing direct, personalized guidance to each participant, focusing on advanced research design techniques, individualized mentoring, and practical training for developing well-structured research proposals. Through interactive sessions, participants refined their ideas, received in-depth feedback, and practiced presenting proposals in simulated review panels. Special sessions addressed gender-specific challenges, supporting female researchers in developing strategies to overcome common academic barriers. Combining intensive in-person training with ongoing online support, the program aims to maximize the potential and quality of each participant’s research project.

Successfully organizing this workshop not only demonstrated UEH’s dedication to fostering research excellence but also highlighted our commitment to internationalization.
