MOA signing between UEH and Capilano University – Strategic cooperation in training and developing international tourism human resources

On April 4th, 2025, UEH and Capilano University (Canada) officially signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), strengthening their cooperation in international tourism education and human resource development.

Attending the signing ceremony from Capilano University was Dr. Chris Bottrill -  Vice President for International Cooperation. Representing UEH, the welcoming delegation included Dr. Dinh Cong Khai – Vice President of UEH; Assoc. Prof. Pham Duong Phuong Thao – Deputy Head, Department of Research- Development & Global Engagement (RDGE); Dr. Nguyen Duc Tri – Dean of School of Tourism; Mr. Doan Duc Minh – Vice Dean of School of Tourism; Mr. Duong Ngoc Thang – Program Director of Hospitality Management, along with faculty members and students from the School of Tourism, UEH.

Based on the shared vision of training and developing high-quality human resources in the tourism sector, UEH and Capilano University aim to establish a long-term partnership to enhance education quality and expand student career opportunities. In the context of tourism becoming a strategic pillar of the global economy, the demand for a workforce that meets international standards has become increasingly urgent. Notably, as the tourism industry undergoes a substantial shift towards sustainability and responsibility, along with the impact of technology, especially artificial intelligence (AI), on the travel experience, the need to train a workforce capable of adapting to these changes is more critical than ever.

UEH and Capilano University are committed to collaborating to provide tangible value to students, not only in developing professional knowledge but also in enhancing ethical awareness and the ability to apply technology in the workplace. Through this partnership, UEH students will have the opportunity to access a global working environment, thus preparing themselves with the solid foundation needed to contribute to the sustainable growth and prosperity of the tourism industry.

The signing of the MOA marks the beginning of numerous collaborative opportunities, including:

Credit transfer and articulation: Both parties will create favorable opportunities for credit transfer and articulation between programs, enabling tourism students to access international learning environments and broaden their academic perspectives.

Collaborative research and faculty exchange: Both parties will promote joint research initiatives and faculty exchange programs, facilitating the sharing of knowledge and expertise between the two organizations.

Student exchange program: Both parties will implement student exchange programs, providing students with rich cultural experiences and enhancing their global outlook.

Joint academic programs: Both parties will collaborate to develop innovative educational programs, equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the rapidly growing tourism industry.

The signing ceremony between UEH and Capilano University was held with great solemnity in the presence of all participating delegates. The signing of the MOA marks an important milestone in opening up numerous collaboration opportunities between the two institutions after a period of active exchange and negotiation. Both parties expressed their commitment to further strengthening and developing a long-term and sustainable partnership through this agreement.

Capilano University (CapU) is a public university located in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Established in 1968, the university offers more than 120 programs, including bachelor's degrees, post-graduate diplomas, and certificates across various fields such as liberal arts, business, education, health, and human development. Capilano University is committed to providing a creative and diverse learning environment that fosters curiosity and imagination, while also promoting the principles of Indigenization and decolonization in education. Each year, CapU enrolls approximately 12,700 students, with international students making up nearly 20%—about 2,500 students from 92 countries.
