National Scientific Conference (SOBC 2021): “Banking Future in Artificial Intelligence Age”

On the morning of 10th December 2021, School of Banking - UEH College of Business collaborated with National Economics University, Can Tho University, JABES with the media sponsorship of The Saigon Times on organizing SOBC 2021 under the theme “BankingFuture in Artificial Intelligence Age” via online and offline modalities. This is a forum for exchanging and sharing research findings, experiences among scientists, researchers, scholars, and leading experts at AI applications in banking activities. 

Attending the conference, in terms of UEH, was Prof. Su Dinh Thanh - President, Assoc. Prof. Phan Thi Bich Nguyet - Strategy and Policy Advisory Council Chairwoman, Prof. Nguyen Trong Hoai - Editor-in-Chief of JABES as well as administrators of UEH Member Schools, leaders of UEH Departments, Schools, and Institutes.

On behalf of  UEH School of Banking affiliated to UEH College of Business, there witnessed the participation of Ph.D. Hoang Hai Yen - Dean, Ph.D. Phan Chung Thuy - Vice Dean, M.Sc. Duong Tan Khoa - Vice Dean, and Heads/Deputy Heads of Divisions, Program Directors and other lecturers of UEH School of Banking.

Representing co-organizers were Mr. Nguyen Hoang Minh - Former Director of State Bank of Vietnam HCMC; Mr. Ngo Van Duc - Deputy Head of Payment System Division - Payment Department, SBV; Prof. Bui Huy Nhuong - Vice President of National Economics University (Hanoi); Assoc. Prof. To Trung Thanh - Head of Research Management Department - National Economics University; Assoc. Prof. Truong Dong Loc - Deputy Head of School of Economics, Can Tho University; Assoc. Prof. Le Long Hau - Director of Center for Training, Research and Economics Consultancy (CENTREC), Can Tho University.

Guest speakers are specialists in this field as well as UEH lecturers, researchers and students participated in the conference via online and offline modalities.

Overview of SOBC 2021

Delivering the conference opening speech, Prof. Su Dinh Thanh shared: “SOBC 2021 under the theme “BankingFuture in Artificial Intelligence Age” was held with the aim of creating a forum for exchanging and sharing research findings, and experiences among scientists, researchers, scholars, and leading experts regarding AI applications in banking activities. This is also an opportunity for researchers, representatives of banks and enterprises to present and discuss new financial technology tendencies, threats, and challenges that banks are encountering in AI age. Thanks to this conference, we hope to contribute policy initiatives for management and the technology ecosystem construction to Vietnamese digital economy following governmental  orientation by 2030 and 2050 vision. Besides, it will additionally provide banks and corporates with new development inclinations for applying artificial intelligence and machine learning to their operations, therefore, it reduces costs and increases customers’ experiences as well as  being a bridge between AI technology providers and demanded banks or corporates.”

SOBC 2021 has attracted a variety of researchers and managers around the country with more than 80 submissions and 46 qualified papers selected for publication in the conference proceedings. The papers selected for presentation and publication in the conference proceedings covered 4 main topics as follows:

  • Topic 1: AI & Big Data in Banking and Finance
  • Topic 2: Banking and Digital Transformation
  • Topic 3: Finance and Technology Market
  • Topic 4: Economics and Finance in 4.0 Industry

In addition, the conference honorably invited speakers who are specialists and managers working at State Bank of Vietnam, commercial banks, AI technology-developing companies as well as researchers from other universities to discuss and share their experience, comprising:

The conference took place successfully with a wide range of qualified discussions together with exciting debates from the representatives of State Bank of Vietnam, commercial banks, AI-developing companies, researchers from universities: National Economics University, Can Tho University, Banking University HCMC, University of Economics and Law and University of Economics HCMC.

At the end of the conference, the host and all members agreed to gather research findings and proposals from specialists and researchers to send to government bodies for reference purposes, contributing to the construction of general policies for AI applications, Big data, and banking technologies in Vietnam Banking Industry.

Ph.D. Hoang Hai Yen - Dean at School of Banking - UEH College of Business concluded: “Due to research and work with commercial banks, School of Banking affiliated with UEH College of Business realized that business developing potentiality of Banking industry still has remarkable growth if banks succeed in digitalizing and applying technologies similarly to AI, Big data, automation and so on in designing and supplying service banking products. At that time, the process of approaching potential customers as well as analyzing customers’ desires and features to produce service products matching their demands and risk management and so on will operate automatically on modern technology background, contributing to raising customers’ experiences and sales effectiveness of the banks. Therefore, SOBC 2021 is a precious opportunity for researchers to present their research findings and discuss new banking and finance technology tendencies with threats and challenges that banking can face in the age of AI, Big data, and additional topics in terms of AI application in Banking Industry. Knowledge and experience derived from the conference will be valuable references for policymakers and reality managers in the Banking and Finance Industry.”
