In front of the impact of the Industrial Revolution 4.0; with a multisectoral, multidisciplinary orientation and providing training programs to meet the new requirements of the digital transformation process, UEH held a seminar on establishing AI and Big Data Research Center in Economics on the morning of April 2nd, 2021. The program attracted more than 50 prestigious leaders, researchers and experts in the field of AI and Big Data to attend.

Under the strong progress of science and technology achievements, especially information communication technology (ICT), new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), big data began to have many applications in production and business activities and economic analysis. This contributes to promoting research and training in applied technology in economics.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics (UEH), as a key training and research school in economics and business, over the years, has made many changes towards multisectoral and multidisciplinary universities. In front of the impact of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, UEH aims to provide research products and training services capable of meeting the new requirements of the digital transformation of enterprises and building a digital economy.

In this context, on the morning of February 4th, 2021, at Room B1.205 (Campus B), Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics held a seminar "Establishment of AI and Big Data Technology Research Center in Economics". The seminar was organized to focus on discussing and sharing issues related to trends in artificial intelligence (AI) and Big data research applied in the fields of economics, finance - banking, administration science, social science, computing science, science and technology, etc as the basis for the establishment of the project "Building AI technology center and Big data at UEH".

Attending the seminar, on the guest side, there were Mr. Tran Hoang Nam - Head of Telecommunications Center, Quang Trung Software Park Development Company Limited; Dr. Dang Quang Vinh - Data Science Director of BE Group; Assoc. Dr. Thoại Nam - Director of HPC Lab - Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Vietnam National University. On the UEH side, there's Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong - Chairman of the School Board, Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh - President; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trong Hoai - Vice President; Assoc. Dr. Phan Thi Bich Nguyet - Chairman of the Advisory Council and leaders of the Faculties/ Institutes, member organizations to develop the project.

Opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh - President of UEH, would like to thank the experts who have accompanied and supported the school in the digital transformation process, promoting applied science and technology. Technology is an area of great interest at UEH. Therefore, the university always focuses on investing and enhancing the development of applied science and technology; simultaneously, the renovation of the traditional training disciplines of the university is in line with the process of the national digital transformation.

Professor President emphasized: Experts need to discuss and focus directly on two big issues. Firstly, it is to apply AI and Big Data models in the field of Economics at UEH and differences in model implementation in accordance with the university’s development orientation. Secondly, it is to clearly discuss the steps for implementing and operating a Big Data Center; from there, the university will have appropriate digital infrastructure investment policies to serve the process of renovation of the training program in a multisectoral and multidisciplinary way.

At the seminar, MSc. Thai Kim Phung - Representative of the project team, Deputy Dean in charge of The Faculty of Business Information Technology presented the operation model of AI & Big Data Research Center at UEH. The presentation revolves around 03 main contents: AI research potential, Big Data in the field of economics, research situation at UEH and initial proposal on the operation model of AI & Big data Technology Research Center.

Besides, Dr. Vo Tat Thang - HAPRI Research Institute; Dr. Nguyen Phuc Canh - Faculty of Public Finance; MSc. Huynh Luu Duc Toan - Asian Journal of Economic and Business Research identified the difficulties and necessities of transitioning from traditional research to AI and Big data applied research.

The experts attending the seminar consulted on the collection and management of Big Data, some data source management solutions; calculation models (AI & Big data) on the data source collected for economic problems; implementing a high-performance computing system (HPC) that supports economic problems.
