On January 9, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), in collaboration with the Vung Tau City People's Committee, hosted the Award Ceremony for the 3rd International Design Competition, themed around green, smart, and climate-adaptive urban planning.

An overview of the Bac Phuoc Thang area, a key gateway to Vung Tau City, which was selected as the theme for this year's international competition.

The competition was spearheaded by the Institute of Smart City and Management (ISCM) at UEH, in partnership with the Vung Tau City People's Committee and leading experts in the field of urban planning.

The event attracted nearly 400 students from over 30 countries worldwide and Vietnam.

The competition attracted nearly 400 students from over 30 countries, who contributed planning ideas for Vung Tau City.

The theme, proposed by Vung Tau City, challenged participants to research and develop planning solutions for the Bac Phuoc Thang area. This area is distinguished by its unique mangrove ecosystem and is envisioned to become a model ecological urban area for Vung Tau.

The Bac Phuoc Thang area also boasts a unique natural landscape and a strategic location on the main route connecting key areas such as Ho Chi Minh City, the Vung Tau city center, Ba Ria City, and Long Hai Town.

According to the Organizing Committee, this theme, closely aligned with real-world challenges, required participants to spend over seven months researching and developing integrated solutions. Their proposals incorporated design, spatial organization, and technology, while also considering cultural aspects, globalization, adaptability, and, most importantly, a vision for a sustainable urban environment in the future.

The competition was launched in April 2023. After rigorous preliminary rounds and evaluations by an international jury of professors and industry experts, the top 15 submissions were selected for display at the exhibition. Subsequently, the final three prizes, a 'Most Liked Submission' award, and a 'Sponsor's Choice' award were determined, along with the 10 most outstanding proposals.

The submissions received high praise from the judges for applying unique planning strategies and creative designs to explore new urban development directions capable of promoting carbon neutrality.

These solutions addressed diverse urban aspects, including architecture, infrastructure, transportation, and landscaping, harmoniously blending theory and practice to propose a suitable and sustainable development path for Vung Tau City.
