Sustainable Career Orientation 5.0 – Empowering Tomorrow: What Students Should 'Understand' Before Choosing a University?

Experts will share what students should "understand" before choosing a university in the discussion series Empowering Tomorrow, broadcasting on March 29.

Empowering Tomorrow is co-organized by University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) in collaboration with VnExpress Newspaper and Truong Nguoi Ta fanpage, live on UEH fanpage channel, UEH Youtube Channel, VnExpress and Truong Nguoi Ta fanpage.

Career orientation is a necessary activity for sustainable development for the future of the young generation, especially middle and high school students. Accordingly, with the theme "Sustainable Career Orientation 5.0", the program consisted of two episodes with the goal of helping students make the right decisions regarding their career and university. This was an important milestone, requiring adolescents to have a more comprehensive view of themselves, the market, and the education system.

“5.0 – the era of a super smart society” will happen with a timeline determined to be 2035 or possibly earlier. This leads to an explosion of many keywords listed as "the rise of super technologies", "enhanced human-machine interaction", "putting people at the center", etc. This change impacts people, the labor market, and how universities design their programs.

Therefore, Empowering Tomorrow with a team of experts will help students answer their questions, aiming for the three "understandings", including understanding themselves, understanding the market and understanding how universities operationalize their programs. Through this, parents and teachers from high and middle school can receive a lot of information and solutions to accompany their children in planning the future.

The first episode of the program included two guests. Among them, Assoc.Prof. Bui Quang Hung is the Deputy Director of UEH. Ms. Pham Thi Phuong Khanh holds the position of Marketing Director of Navigos Group Vietnam, this unit owns Vietnamworks, one of the first and largest job information websites in Vietnam.

Under the moderation of MC Tuyen Tang and her experiential story, the experts will share how to identify the student’s majors with their talents, abilities, interests, and especially personal inclinations. Based on this, parents can accompany and respect their children's decisions, instead of imposing their personal views.

According to Assoc.Prof. Bui Quang Hung, determining the right orientation has a huge impact on the results of choosing the right career. Therefore, in this talk, he will offer some methods and tools to help young people discover themselves more accurately.

From a business perspective, Ms. Pham Thi Phuong Khanh helped viewers better understand the labor market. She responded to the problems of how the market would change, how workers would adapt, what skills were needed for the 5.0 era, etc. With information from Navigos Group Vietnam' Marketing Director, young people can accumulate experience, prepare skillsets, and develop themselves sustainably to adapt to the unpredictable changes of the market.

In addition, the guests also shared their views on graduates working in the wrong field or profession, and what to do with the wrong choice during the transition from general education to university. The two speakers offered lots of solutions and advice for young people when encountering this situation based on market realities and the employee’s career paths.

In the next issue of Empowering Tomorrow, the program will explore the topic "Understanding the opportunities of choosing today's university 5.0". Thereby, students and parents will have a more comprehensive view on future choices and opportunities.
