The Impact of A Healthy Lifestyle On Language Learning: Healthier Lifestyle = Higher Learning

Have you ever considered how a healthy lifestyle might affect your ability to absorb and use the information? Or what effect does a limping leg have on your cardiovascular and nervous systems?

You are probably aware that leading a healthy lifestyle will improve your ability to concentrate and think logically. However, the daily lifestyle that the media promotes, with healthy, good-looking people with muscle mass and the ability to concentrate and study with high results, is either too "perfect" or too far away for a student with deadline chaos.

Of course, in order to achieve a more comprehensive result, you should continue to eat a healthy, nutritious diet, exercise more, avoid using electronic devices for extended periods of time, and read more books. But all of that must be done gradually, day by day, month by month, and even year by year. So, what is the most immediate thing a student can do without devoting too much of his study and rest time?

Have you considered concentrating on your “breathing”? Everyday subconscious action that perhaps no one notices, but at the Language Workshop with the topic: The Impact of A Healthy Lifestyle On Language Learning: Healthier Lifestyle = Higher Learning" - organized by UEH English Zone and the School of Foreign Languages on April 11, 2023, you will be carefully guided on how to breathe from a different perspective under the guidance of Mr Chaz Ibrahim, the founder of Surakshaa Yoga and Recovery Yoga.

A study published in the journal Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine found that just 10 minutes of Bhramari Pranayama breathing practice reduced the time people took to react to stimuli. Other yoga breathing practices significantly improve parietal neural stimulation, spatial memory, communication ability, and a variety of other practical benefits.

Within the framework of periodic activities, Mr Chaz Ibrahim, the founder of Surakshaa Yoga, Recovery Yoga from Canada, participated in a Language Workshop at the UEH English Zone, where he shared a lot of valuable experiences for learners, assisting attendees in having a real yoga experience and daily breathing exercises, balance postures that any young student can do. Done in less than 15 minutes but brings practical effects not only for mental health but also for a healthier body every day.

The Language Workshop made attendees look inward to change the most important thing in life - "breath."

The speaker discussed the difficulties that many people face when learning a new language, particularly English, and noted that we are in too much of a hurry and expect immediate results, which is impossible. That each of us does every day, but here, how do we breathe "right"? As a result, he introduced the participants to the subject of Yoga through scientific research and guidance. The students took an interesting approach to the action, thanks to the speaker's enthusiastic recommendation to practice fast breathing, medium breathing, and slowly and evenly moving the breath between the two breathing holes.

Attendees were also introduced to new technical terms like Pranayama, Bastrika, and Nadishodhana/Nadishuddhi.  The students all felt calmer and more alert after balancing their movements and correcting their breathing.  The speaker also stressed the importance of maintaining this habit on a regular basis in order to be effective.

The Language Workshop is a successful event for people who are interested in learning and improving their English at UEH. The workshop lasted nearly two hours and was filled with laughter, learning, and active participation in each speaker's activities. The event gave attendees an inside look at changing what's most important in life - "breath" - with an April theme that delves into mental health to improve students' lives and learning abilities. The speaker also thoroughly answered questions from students in-person and online about how to practice Yoga, meditate, and commit to a significantly improved lifestyle if you begin and stick with it.
