The national Conference: Digital transformation revolution and challenges for tourism businesses

To celebrate the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH)’s 45th anniversary, on the morning of July 29, 2021, the Institute of Tourism successfully organized a national conference with the theme "Digital transformation revolution and challenges for tourism businesses". This event brought new information and perspectives on the digital transformation of the "smokeless industry", and creates networking opportunities between speakers and attendees.

The conference had the participation of Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh – UEH President, Dr. Nguyen Duc Tri, Director of the Institute of Tourism, UEH experts, and lecturers. The virtual conference attracted a large number of experts from research institutes, universities and directors and managers of large enterprises with in-depth knowledge and experience in the field of tourism and technology across the country, such as: Ms. Huynh Phan Phuong Hang - Deputy General Director of Vietravel Company, Ms. Nguyen Khanh Linh - General Director of Winway Vietnam and Dr. Nguyen The Kien, Deputy Director of the Center for Socio-Economic Data and Analysis (CSEAD) under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

The conference attracted a large number of experts from research institutes, universities, directors and managers of large enterprises.

Opening the conference, Dr. Nguyen Duc Tri, Director of UEH Tourism Institute, shared: “The 4.0 Industrial Revolution with advanced technology applications and digital transformation has developed in many countries and is increasingly spreading to many industries, including Vietnam's tourism industry. However, this transformation has also created challenges for tourism businesses in catching up with technology trends and the constant change of visitor behavior. Therefore, the Institute of Tourism hopes that the conferencecan provide different perspectives on future prospects for digital transformation in the hotel, travel, transportation, etc. to connect stakeholders in the industry to support and provide appropriate digital transformation development orientations for tourism businesses in the current context.” 

On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh, UEH President, congratulated the successful conference and affirmed that innovation was essential to adapt to the continuous development of technology in the digital transformation era, and emphasized the importance of scientific research conferences for the development of the economy and society.

The conference "Digital transformation revolution and challenges for tourism businesses" had 03 sessions with 09 presentations carefully selected from experts. In addition to highlighting the reality of the worldwide digital transformation revolution, the speakers focused on analyzing many digital transformation methods that are currently being widely applied, including: artificial intelligence (AI), block chain, chatbot, virtual reality technology, ERP system... Experts also come together to see and offered opportunities and solutions, ways to link related industries for travel companies. Thereby, businesses can take advantage of the aforementioned digital transformation technologies to transform themselves, not only to overcome the crisis in the current Covid-19 pandemic but also to thrive in the future.

The speakers focused on digital transformation methods applied in today tourism

Despite many difficulties due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, the conference was received a high level of interaction from the speakers, delegates and experts and a lot of positive feedbacks from the participations. Towards the University’s 45th anniversary, in the near future, many national conferences will be officially organized and bring useful perspectives and experiences to contribute to the development of the economy and society. This is one of UEH's efforts to become a multidisciplinary university and enhance its academic reputation in the Asia region.
