UEH Training Quality Improvement Conference for the 2025–2030 Period: Strategic Orientation for Sustainable Development

Aiming to enhance training quality, uphold academic reputation, and increase international competitiveness, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) successfully organized the Training Quality Improvement Conference for the 2025–2030 period on the morning of June 6, 2025.

From April to May 2025, UEH conducted a series of conferences and seminars on training quality improvement across its member units. This series of activities holds significant meaning, demonstrating the University’s strong commitment to continuous innovation in response to the ever-increasing demands of society and the labor market.

The Training Quality Improvement Conference for the 2025–2030 period, held on June 6, served as a highlight connecting this series of activities—a platform for faculty members to reflect on the current situation, discuss solutions, and propose strategic directions to further elevate UEH’s training quality to new heights.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh – President of UEH – affirmed the importance of training quality within UEH’s overall development strategy. At the same time, he emphasized that the entire system must proactively innovate, standardize, and adapt to both preserve academic identity and meet national and international accreditation standards.

Kicking off the content session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Tien Khai – Standing Deputy Head of the Department of Quality Assurance and Internal Control, representing the Training Quality Improvement Task Force – presented “Overview of UEH Training Quality,” providing in-depth analysis of the current state, strengths, and areas for improvement across the system.

This was followed by presentations from representatives of UEH’s member colleges: UEH College of Business (COB); UEH College of Economics, Law and Government (CELG); UEH College of Technology and Design (CTD); UEH Honours College (UEH.ISB) – each focusing on specific orientations and solutions tailored to the characteristics of their respective units.

In the thematic session “Enhancing Training Quality Linked to International University Rankings,” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Phong Nguyen – Standing Deputy Head of the Department of Research - Development and Global Engagement – helped faculty members gain deeper insight into the role of international standards in university development strategy, as well as concrete steps for UEH to improve its standing on prestigious global rankings. He also emphasized the connection between university ranking indicators and training quality improvement.

Following the presentations, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Quang Hung – Vice President of UEH – delivered “Orientation for UEH Training Quality Improvement for the 2025–2030 Period,” outlining synchronized solution groups: renewing curricula, increasing internationalization, integration and practical connectivity; developing faculty competencies; modernizing facilities; improving student services; strengthening quality assurance, the role of program directors/course group leaders, and enhancing communication and counseling activities.

The open discussion, moderated by the Presidium comprising Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong, Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Quang Hung, recorded many candid and heartfelt contributions from faculty representatives of departments, institutes, and academic programs.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong – Chairman of the UEH University Council – noted the valuable contributions of the delegates and stressed: “Training quality is the honor of educators, the brand of UEH, and the future of the nation. As a key public university, UEH has the mission not only to train high-quality human resources, but also to cultivate global citizens – those with critical thinking, creativity, and a spirit of service to society. Training quality will play a pivotal role in fulfilling that mission.”

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong also set forth six solution orientations to enhance training quality:

(1) Recognize the strategic importance of training quality;

(2) Innovate and improve training quality according to international standards, ensuring integration and practical relevance of academic programs; implement accreditation and international benchmarking; develop multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary programs; apply digital transformation in training;

(3) The orientation to improve UEH’s training quality for the 2025–2030 period must be linked to detailed aspects: curriculum, admissions, teaching methods, governance, practical engagement, facilities, student support services, communication and counseling, and internal quality management;

(4) Urge all leaders and faculty to be determined to enhance teaching quality at UEH;

(5) Every two years, the university, member colleges, departments, and institutes should review and summarize solutions to identify next steps, maintaining a spirit of continuous innovation and quality improvement;

(6) Hope and trust that each faculty member will continually renew their mindset, methods, and attitude, joining UEH in a strong and sustainable transformation.

The UEH Training Quality Improvement Conference for the 2025–2030 period concluded successfully with numerous policy suggestions and practical actions, serving as an important springboard for the implementation of quality improvement plans across the UEH system, starting from July 2025.
