University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City’s JABES remaining in Q1 of SCOPUS

On June 6, 2024, according to the latest update from SCOPUS, JABES of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) maintain the Q1 ranking in the SCOPUS 2024 in two areas: (1) Economics Economics, Econometrics and Finance and (2) Business, Management and Accounting.

Since 2012, the Journal of Asian Business and Economic Studies (JABES; formerly known as the Journal of Economic Development) has determined its goal of becoming a journal of international standards and strived to be indexed in SCOPUS. To achieve that goal, JABES continuously attempts to improve its quality according to international journal practices. To date, JABES - English version has been indexed in international rankings. In particular, many outstanding results were recorded in the period 2021 - 2024.

JABES in International Indices (2021 - 2024)

As of 2021, JABES has been indexed in EconLit, EBSCO, Cabell's Directories, Discovery Service, Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), ASEAN Citation Index (ACI), Google Scholar, WorldCat, Proquest, etc.

On June 9, 2021, JABES was recognized in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) - Web of Science and Clarivate Analytics databases. After that, in March 2022, JABES officially entered the SCOPUS journal lists, becoming the first Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities, Business and Management in Vietnam recognized in this category.

In March 2023, JABES was indexed in the ABDC Journal Quality List. In particular, ABDC is a list of quality journals of the Australian Business Deans Council.

Officially indexed in SCOPUS from June 2022, by June 2023, SCOPUS announced that JABES was ranked Q1 for both fields: (1) Economics, Econometrics and Finance; (2) Business, Management and Accounting.

Since being recognized by international rankings, the number of quality articles submitted to JABES has been increasing. To continue to carry out its mission of being a place to publish reliable and quality research works, JABES has made efforts to increase the productivity of receiving and peer-reviewing articles while still ensuring the quality of a reliable international journal. In June 2024, JABES once again affirmed its prestigious academic position by continuing to maintain Q1 in SCOPUS in both fields: Economics, Econometrics and Finance; and Business, Management and Accounting.

JABES’s important data

According to Emerald Publishing’s Report, in the period 2021 - 2024, JABES CiteScore index in 2023 was high an average citation was 7.6.

The number of articles submitted to JABES has gradually increased over the years. In 2020, there were 130 articles submitted to JABES. By 2023, this number increased to 540 articles, in which, the average number of articles accepted for publication is 18-24/year with an acceptance rate of 6-7%. Research articles submitted to JABES come from many countries around the world listed as Vietnam, New Zealand, Malaysia, Pakistan, Japan, Australia, USA, Thailand, Taiwan, Philippines, etc.

The number of reader visits increased very quickly with an average of 30,000 article downloads/quarter. The journal is mostly referenced and cited in Indonesia, followed by Malaysia, China, England, Italy.

In addition to efforts to operationalize journals according to international practices, the annual International Conference series “The Asia Conference on Business and Economic Studies - ACBES” hosted by JABES also brings many good results, attracting prestigious scholars from many countries and contributing significantly to affirming JABES's academic position and reputation as this seminar series regularly attracts leading keynote speakers from various fields and receive the sponsorship of many international journals and hundreds of researchers from dozens of countries around the world every year.

In addition, the Journal has an Advisory and an Editorial Council that operates continuously, including 60 researchers with academic prestige from 24 countries around the world, and a proportion of international members in the Editorial Council. 90%, of members of the Editorial Board hold positions as Editors-in-Chief in prestigious international journals.

JABES's major activities in 2024

In 2024, in addition to efforts to maintaining the Q1 ranking in SCOPUS, JABES will continue to participate in other international indices listed as Chartered Association of Business Schools - CABS, the association issuing criteria for maintaining international standards in teaching, research and business engagement; and system of journals type A - The Italian Tenure system in Economics.

In addition, JABES is working to increase productivity and prepare for the organization of the joint Asian Conference on Business and Economic Studies, which will take place from August 28-30, 2024 in Bali - Indonesia. This is the first time the prestigious annual international conference series ACBES has been held outside Vietnam in coordination with two other prestigious conferences of Padjadjaran University (UNPAD, Indonesia) and Udayana University (UNUD, Indonesia), which are The 8th Global Advance Research Conference on Management and Business Studies (8th GARCOMBS ) and The International Conference on Economics and Business Udayana University (2nd ICONICS ). The joint Asian Conference on Business and Economic Studies will have the participation of 5 international researchers as key speakers, including Professor Subal C. Kumbhakar (Binghamton University, USA; Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Empirical Economics), Professor Michelle Greenwood (Monash University, Australia; Co-Editor-in-Chief of Business Ethics Magazine), Professor Rebecca Thornton (Baylor University, USA), Professor Gabriel S. Lee (University of Regensburg, Germany), and Dr. Dong Nguyen (Durham University, UK).

The above achievements of JABES are due to the great support from the Ministry of Education and Training through two funding projects for Vietnamese journals to be indexed in SCOPUS in the period 2013 - 2017 and 2020-2023, and valuable financial and academic resources of University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City and domestic and international researchers.
